I wish private vehicles were taxed yearly based on the damage they do to the roads divided by the average number of passengers based on vehicle type. Road damage scales with vehicle weight to the fourth power.

Should be incorporating "cost to society and environment" to be more generic. Rolling coal, loud-ass exhaust and danger to pedestrians should not go unsanctioned.

Dutch road taxes do this, but nowhere the fourth power. It's not even linear

So does belgian road tax. Here its based on fuel type/efficiency, car type and weight.
