So normally we travel pretty straight forwardly. But currently planning on a trip this October and struggling to get the airfare organized to really pick the best deal. It's a multi country itinerary and would love anyone's recommendations to help us out on finding the best tickets. The specific plan is flexibile so now I'm getting stuck in looking at a thousand possibilities trying to find the best one.

The plan is DC->iceland->Amsterdam -> ?->DC.

So flying to Holland is easy enough just annoying. But the way back we're going to be in Western Holland for work then have 2-3 days free so we figure either pop into Germany or down to Belgium. Have no stong desire either way, so whichever makes the flight home cheapest is a real factor. But it's been really difficult putting this plan into travel/airline sites to compare prices. Not to even mention trying to do flight price trackers. Any tips on how to organize this or do I really just need to sit down with an excel spreadsheet?

I find that Google flights is the most comprehensive tool for finding flight combinations and has the best filters for layover times, flight durations, depature times, # of connections, etc
