Seeing how the vast majority of people stayed and are gladly participating in reddits PR event, I think it's fair to say that messing with reddit can be fine.
The strange thing about reddit refugees on Lemmy is that they have this weird sense that the platform they left actually died when they did so. The trith is that the vast majority did not migrate and are happily eating their spoonfed shit.
When we say it's dead, we mean what is used to be is dead. But let's not pretend the site actually died or is no longer working. We can all (justifiably) think it's a shit filled shell of it's former self without being in denial.
I'm a refugee, but I have no illusion about my value to Reddit (or how much my absence will be noticed - barely at all if at all)
I think, for some of us, it's not like "the platform will die"; it's "I left the circus. No longer my deal". Thrive, falter .. it's no longer our business; and that's freeing.
A quick reminder to everyone that MySpace still exists.
Just because the link doesn't 404 doesn't mean that something ain't dying or dead.
They've been propping up Myspace's corpse like Weekend at Bernie's since 2008. I feel like they're trying to do the same thing now with the new version WinAmp. They're dead to me.
Just like digg is still "working", dying takes time.
It's absolutely wild. I saw this meme the other day: https://jlai.lu/post/86996
Some people have lost all grip on reality.
But Facebook and Twitter still exist
Yeah I left Reddit not because it was dying but because it started to change into something that wasnβt for me. It has always changed, but the third party app thing made me realize it was time to move on.
I donβt care what reddits owners do with the platform, Iβm just glad to be here now.
