I grew up seeing these birds everywhere. But no matter how many people I ask, no one can tell me what type of bird it is. I’m guessing some type of finch?

I’m in the southern part of Florida, USA, if that’s helpful.

Not everyone lives in the USA. Also people are the reason they were released in the USA on purpose to control the pests eating the crops. It's not their fault, and certainly not fair to describe them this way.

House sparrows were my spark bird and Mama and Papa bird have nested with me in my garage with The Flock™ for 5 years now. They mean the world to me. We even had a robin pair nest in our garage and the sparrows didn't touch the nest or their hatchlings.

Please leave them alone.

Updated to mention the US. Assuming we are talking about the US I disagree, but I am happy that you found bird(s) that you enjoy! They are magical creatures.
