And since you won't be able to modify web pages, it will also mean the end of customization, either for looks (ie. DarkReader, Stylus), conveniance (ie. Tampermonkey) or accessibility.

The community feedback is... interesting to say the least.

Hearing a lot of negative Mozilla stuff recently, is there a writeup or something about this for someone OOTL? What happened?

The combination of this gives you an idea why people are upset at Mozilla Corporation, CEO is payment is rising, they lay-off a massive amount of workforce while losing share in the browser market space. The money is there, it just goes to the high-ups instead of the browser / products.

These assholes actually gamble while they give Google the browser monopoly, and Google will pull shit like DRM sites and cutting capabilities of ad-blockers.

What could go wrong if you give the internet to an ad and data company

In addition to what the other commenter said, Mozilla doesn't have the will to improve Firefox into a market contender.

They get a lot of free money from their competitors to prevent legislations from attacking chromium for market monopoly which makes them prioritize making Google happy more than their users.

They also have very controversial opinions regarding actual useful features such as progressive web apps (where support was given exclusively on Android but after a lot of complains). You can't make your browser into a market contender if you act like Safari on PC.

10 years ago when we had a 3 way market, Mozilla actually cared about making a good product.

Nowadays, they are just Google's shell company to keep Chrome's dominance away from the anti-competivity law suits.

Fucking hell that sucks. Is there anything the comsumers can do about it?

It's less a "what's happening" but more a "what's always has been". Mozilla gets recurrent payments from Google, I presume as a way to keep them just afloat enough to avoid antitrust law. Also, the Mozilla CEO gets a persistent raise in wages while Firefox sinks. Occam's Razor says golden parachute.
