I am sick of LGBTQ media being dominated bs soulless corporate Marvelian horseshit so I need some recommendations outside of shitty hentai comics. My favorite media types are anime and video games.

Anime: Revolutionary Girl Utena is absolutely fucking fantastic, including the movie, like really, I can't possibly sing its praises. For something with LGBTQ representation in it without it being the focus, but still being pretty important, Wonder Egg's Priority is very, very respectful, just beware that the second half of the story loses itself pretty hard. If you care about anime where you can have ships there's always KawoShin from Evangelion and VashWood from Trigun. I heard the newest Trigun anime is great but I haven't seen it yet, I really like the old one tho.

Donghua: I recently watched Tian Guan Ci Fu (Heaven Official's Blessing), and while the show didn't really explicitly get into it, there's a lot of sexual tension and gay innuendo in it. The original novel is BL, but I never read it. Still, absolutely loved the show.

Games: Celeste is an obvious one. There's Signalis which I didn't finish yet, and it's very anticommunist, at least till the point where I got, but it's a great game in every other regard and it's about space lesbians. There's also A Date with Death, I only played a bit of the demo, but if you like visual novels it does have a pretty high rating on Steam. Hades takes a while to get into the LGBTQ part of it, but it's really good and Guilty Gear Strive have amazing LGBTQ representation.

Outside of these, if you want a LGBTQ movie, Nimona is really good.

Signalis

Signalis very quickly became one of my favourite games of all times. In the end it turned out less anti-communist than I initially feared, mostly due to it's story being not really about politics.

I definitely simp for the space DDR though.

Oh I see, that's actually good to know, most of my impressions of the anticommunism in the game come from very early on with the total surveillance, ammo being "property of the state" bullshit and then from the way lore was being phrased as I was playing.

But I agree the aesthetic is amazing. Space DDR fucks.

Well, there are some anti-communist tones in the portrayal of the game's setting, but ultimately neither the characters nor the game itself doesn't have much to say about the politics. Its themes are much more personal, and the politics are mentioned only in passing. The DDR aesthetic is a set dressing.

But it does fuck.

Edit: I should also mention that the aesthetics at least partly come from the 1970s DDR sci-fi flick "Signale", which I didn't watch. Maybe they're just the authors channeling their childhoods?

Got it, I'll finish it eventually, thanks for informing me about that.

Also I didn't know it was somewhat inspired by a movie, I don't think I ever seen a movie from the DDR, I'll probably watch it if I can find it online, thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks for the warning about Wonder Egg. Utena is... unique...
