Huh. I was wondering why I read about it once and then completely forgot about it. I actually have no idea if this was a good thing or a bad thing tbh so I don't have an opinion

To remove all of the nuance: The democratically elected president survived an attempted overthrow from the military. He did so by:

  1. Replacing three military branch leaders who then ordered the military personnel to return to their barracks and stations.

  2. Reaching out to the citizens, who reacted quickly and without any signs of weakness to form mobs who surrounded and shouted at troops belonging to the coup.

The timeline was something like: Coup begins quietly, Coup leader Zuniga claimed to be "trying to restore democracy" at 2:47 AM, and Zuniga was arrested at 5:08 AM for the crime.
