It's funny-sad to me that Taft was known for being obese, but compared to modern people, if you saw him on the street today, you wouldn't even think twice.

He's a chonk, but he's still able to stand.

[–] boeman@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Not really, he's dead.

It looks like it’s really uncomfortable though. I saw an older guy shaped like that in line at the bank the other day. He kept squatting down to rest each time the line advanced. It was odd to see someone squatting at the bank and odd to see an old man so able to squat and get up from a squat, but his body shape made it make sense.

I saw a guy so large riding in a chevy pickup yesterday that he was listing the truck

Might be the angle, but his ass looks wider than his shoulders. I don’t know of a medical term for such a thing, but he looks rotund for his time.

Bruh this man is not obese, he's just slightly larger than usual what the hell

[–] SheeEttin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Compared to other people of the day, he was pretty large, though not morbidly obese. It's really a comment on modern people that this is considered slightly larger than usual.

Even there he looks fatter than he is due to the old-timey way of pulling your waistband over the belly, rather than letting it all hang down like a big meat apron.
