tl;dr: That's a nice argument, why don't you back it up with a source?

I'm trying Sync as a holdover while I'm waiting for Boost, and I've found some things that annoy me a bit. I've purposefully left out any minor bugs that seem like regressions from changing the codebase to work with Lemmy, so the only things I'll critique are purposeful design choices.

  • There is seemingly no easy way to synchronise settings over accounts. This makes initial setup with multiple accounts frustrating, and future changes a little annoying.

  • By default, the floating action button and the 3-dot menu at the top right open the same menu. Why are there 2 different buttons on the same screen that do the same thing?

  • Changing the default text size (which is too small imo) is not easy, as you have to go and change at least 4 or 5 different font size settings for post titles, selftext, comments, comment details, etc. And even then, when I'm typing this right now, it's too small and I can't find any configuration option to change it Why is there is no global font size?

  • There are a few small things that just don't make sense. For example: if you completely collapse a parent comment you're still able to tap it to have the upvote/share controls despite being unable to read it. In contrast, Boost smartly opens the comment when this happens.

There are a few other small things that mildly irk me, but other than these things my Sync experience so far (1 day as of writing) has been somewhat positive.

Claiming that it's superior without any reasoning isn't very productive. If you want to show your support for something, surely you can think of at least one reason that it's better, right?

Changing the default text size

Idk how to link the setting (which is possible), but back on sync for reddit I got annoyed with this too.

After changing the font sizes for posts and comments like you did, I realized there is a setting under "General" that allows you to change the base font size. Doing so affects all of the font sizes without having to configure each individual section.

That said, it is very easy to scroll past or overlook that setting.

This was me too:

"This is such a PITA, there must be a better way." ... Oh, of course, there is."

For me it's the bizarre inability to set a subreddit's default view mode to be swipe. That extra button tap every time I'm on a picture heavy sub is a real chore. Boost can do it so why not Sync? 🤷

Set up account -> Backup -> Switch to new account -> Restore

That doesn't scream "easy" to me. It feels like a workaround.

It would be better to have something like a "global settings" page to specify personal preferences and then maybe "account settings" that override the global settings.

That doesn’t scream “easy” to me.

I can't tell if you're taking the piss or you genuinely think 10 seconds of effort is "hard".

I never said it was hard. It's inconvenient, which is an indicator of poor UX.
