These apps already charge all kinds of fees on top of the posted price so it's not weird for the driver to do the same.

What? Unless Kenya works differently than most of the world, then no, they don't. The fact that customer knows final price before the ride was one of the main selling points of the app.

Also, pretty sure that's illegal (which might not be such dealbreaker in Kenya, I am not really familiar with local situation).
