I got banned from Reddit once lol. I just deleted the cookies in my browser and then made a new account and it worked.
I don't actually use the app, tho

Don't use the Reddit app. The app uniquely identifies your phone
It also has VPN bypass mechanisms built-into the app. It's not good to install this.
Anyone advocating the use of the official app is either an idiot or a shill.
Reddit uses browser cookies to identify people uniquely, they do that in addition to using the IP address associated which they may not always use to initiate a ban of the account.
Use a browser like Mullvad browser with a VPN or Tor browser to create and access a new account.
Also never use the Reddit official app, it has way more trackers than possible in a browser including a VPN bypasser built-in.
Also and this might be obvious, don't use an email associated with any previous accounts. That's a low hanging fruit they target easily.
I've gotten away with Gmail "+"
Like for example if beholdatokeneffort@gmail.com was banned, beholdatokeneffort+zzz@gmail.com would still work lol
Lots of VPN recommendations here but whenever I used one I got shadow banned about a week later. Worked from desktop, the bans came after using the web version from mobile in private mode. Different email etc. No idea how that was tracked, it doesn't seem possible. Some suggested the mere use of VPN - especially for sign-up - leads to a delayed shadow ban later. But some have a different experience so I suppose it's worth trying.
I recreated my account after a ban on some other social network and what it took is a different clear device, different sim, etc, because I needed it too much right at the moment, but I also suggest to took a look at your behavior right after creating it. Assume all new accounts are under a shadowban and deep analysis until X days pass, and for this period you should behave organically, mostly RO, and only then you start upvoting, then commenting, then making posts. Look through their admins' eyes and notice what behavior a spam account or one recently banned would want to do: they'd have connections to similar sites and topics withing their browser\device (they want you to auth with google so they probably suck from other sources too), they'd want to actively continue their usage like they never left, and they'd probably participate in the same communities they've got banned from in the first place. Lurk, make your subscribtions look like you are a normie just starting out and be patient with your involvement.
It takes much less if you don't use their app, all browser based tracking implementations use Cookies, and IP address (usually for aggressive ban evaders).
Their app contains much more aggressive tracking techniques, including a VPN bypass, so I wouldn't install it on your device at all. It's better to use the mobile site on Firefox with ublock origin, possibly with OldLander and RES to make the mobile site more usable.
I'm curious, what kind of desperate need for reddit would you have that would justify a new phone and sim?
Maybe you are really obsessed with a new TV show / movie and have no one IRL to discuss with, and most Lemmy users haven't watched it, so you are desparate to talk to people about the [Insert Plot Twist Here] in the show / movie.
Still, a new phone and Sim 😆? Also aren't there forums in other locations anymore?
Not reddit. One messenger, the likes of facebook, viber, whatsup, where my new employer insisted on having group chats. As I was already hitting over my head with this change of jobs I thought it would be a wrong step to say from the very start that I won't be there at all. To secure this position, I needed to make sure I'm in their boomer socnetwork asap.
And this phone wasn't new, it was an old phone from some of my relatives still capable of using that app, so only a sim is on me.
The system is not that advanced. Just clear your browser data, restart your router and use a new email address.
Better yet do it from your phone on mobile network in a clear browser instance - almost impossible to match the fingerprint to your desktop.
Just don't use Reddit's app. I feel like that should go without saying but there are people who are unaware of how much spyware is packed into that piece of garbage.
TOR Web browser + VPN + New Email
I use rdx when I need to view reddit for something, but it’s read only. No point in participating over there anymore anyway as demonstrated by your story.
Okay, I'm not gonna advocate for using Reddit.
But if you really want to, heres how:
You gotta stop using VPN/Tor for mainstream "social media" sites, since they'd just ban you on sight. They really hate IP addresses from VPNs/Tor. Also don't use apps, use browser only, make sure all browsing data is cleared, preferably use chrome since they hate firefox for some reason, use desktop mode if they keep nagging you about the app, and old.reddit.com still works.
If you use browser, theres no way (besides using an illegal exploit), for the site to know your device ID / MAC addresses. Getting a new device is not necessary.
If you want to bypass the IP ban. Use mobile data. Turn off data, wait a minute, turn back on, you should have a new IP. If not, then turn off your phone for 10 minutes before turning back on. Some home internet also give new IP if you turn off modem for a while, but in my experience, I never got a new IP from powering off the modem, mot even for a few hours, so your best bet is use mobile data (hopefully you can afford a unlimited data plan).
OR alternatively, ask your ISP to give you a new IP.
And yes, it would be your real IP, but these sites basically force you to use your real IP anyways.
Then create a new email address, don't use throwaway emails, use an actual email provider (Google, Outlook, etc, I doubt they like Protonmail addresses, so just stick with the mainstream providers).
You should be able to make a new account.
TLDR: You gotta make your traffic look "normal" to them. Use your real IP (after obtaining a new IP that has never been banned before), use mainstream browsers and in desktop mode, use old.reddit.com if you face issues. Use mainstream emails to sign up.
Btw, mainstream social media has too many bots, are you sure you want to go there?

Use a privacy browser like brave ~~, set the privacy browser as your default (important), create a new account and patch a 3rd party app. Sign in to the 3rd party app. Have "fun" scrolling through manufactured ragebait. At this point you could set your original default browser back, just only use reddit outside of the 3rd party app in the privacy browser.~~
I mean, the best might be to just not have an account. Power tripping admins may try tracking you down irl complaining about 'hacking.'
If you really need to participate, you could use a user agent switcher along with VPN and new info.
