TL;DR: Build quality was absolute shit and it literally shook itself apart on takeoff, killing 1 pilot and injuring 4 others

Even the effective aircraft can be dangerous as fuck.

More pilots died on training flights with the Sopwith Camel (one of the most combat effective planes of WW1) than died in combat.
