Virtue boycotting?

[–] WeUnite@lemm.ee 11 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Just so you all know the New York Post is a Rupert Murdoch (same person who owns Fox News) rag. According to Wikipedia it wasn't profitable from 1976 to 2022 perhaps even loosing up to $70 million a year. The reason why he ran it at a loss for so long is for influence. Prior to Murdoch's acquisition the "Post was seen to have liberal tilt, supporting trade unions and social welfare". Now it's a conservative trash rag.

Please use another source if you can.

People in the US care far too much about some possible badmouthing. Did Mark Zuckerberg call me a virtue signaller? I dont care. Zuckerberg is creepy as hell. Did some zionist genocider call me an anti-semite? yeah I dont care about their opinion on that either. Did some republican say democrats are weak on some issue? Who cares. All they do is lie and talk stupid all day long.

We all need to stop caring about what people we dont respect think or say about us.

[–] droans@midwest.social 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

I quit a long time ago without even meaning to.

There was just less and less content to keep me interested while more ads and "recommendations" kept taking their place. At some point I was just forcing myself to open the app each day and just stopped.

If an app, website, or game won't respect my time, why should I give it any?

how very fellow kids of mark

We need to find a way to prevent sociopaths from making it to the C-suite.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago

Sociopaths are the only people qualified for the C-suite. The problem isn't that the wrong people are getting positions high up. It's that the structure of corporationa is designed for that.

[–] thewebroach@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

In a competitive poorly regulated capitalist economy that's driven by bottom lines and dividends, I'm pretty sure being a narcissistic sociopath is a prereq for the C suite

[–] bitwolf@sh.itjust.works 14 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

What we really need is everyone to suddenly quit at once.

It needs to happen so fast there is no time to sell off the bleeding stocks

[–] MrMcGasion@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

There is a plan going around over on TikTok that everyone should delete their Meta accounts on the 19th (when the TikTok ban goes into effect). We'll see how many actually do it, but so far it's fascinating to watch.

[–] HelixDab2@lemm.ee 1 points 2 hours ago

I've already deleted as much of my FB history as I can (I'm getting error messages at this point), but I keep it active solely because Craigslist is effectively dead.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I'm going to make an account just so I can delete it

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 1 points 18 minutes ago

No I'm too lazy

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 23 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

summons angry goose:

"Which virtues, motherfucker?!"

[–] ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago

Privacy, information security, democracy. Others too, I'm sure.

Why would a billionaire resort to name calling random people ?

Ooooh ... his wealth and power is threatened.

[–] interdimensionalmeme@lemmy.ml 3 points 11 hours ago

Also trying out his new tribe's favorite passtime, projection

[–] luce@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 13 hours ago

"not giving me money is virtue signaling" damn, guess i gotta give him money

[–] wrekone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 15 hours ago

"Being virtuous is virtue signaling."

Ok. How about go fuck yourself Mark. Am I vice signaling enough for you now?

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 8 points 12 hours ago

No, zucky-fuck. Pretending to care about your users and acting a certain way while you do the opposite to get a small-handed fat orange gremlin back into office is virtue signaling.

[–] kipo@lemm.ee 18 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I forgot that not being part of a platform that just changed its rules to openly allow and advocate for hate speech toward trans people is virtue signaling.

Sorry that I want trans people to live without harassment and have human rights, I guess. What a virtue signaling asshole I am.

[–] PresidentCamacho@lemm.ee 4 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

Love what your saying enough I wanna try to rephrase it for extra zing.

"Billionaire toddler virtue signaling to wannabe Fascist leader angry to be facing repercussions"

[–] humble_pete_digger@lemm.ee 7 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

Quit? Proud to never had an account.

[–] MattTheProgrammer@lemmy.world 17 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Makes me think that platforms banning Trump after Jan 6 were just kissing up to Biden coming in. Maybe there is just a cycle of capitalist sucking up.

[–] Suavevillain@lemmy.world 10 points 14 hours ago

I finally deleted mines. I don't want to be on platforms using AI bots to engage users and the privacy issues. I just finally told any family where else to follow me and dipped.

  1. Announces moderation team gutted

  2. Announces that "community notes" will handle moderation

  3. Make a bunch of moves to purge anyone in the community that might actually provide a factual "community note"

Anyone who doesn't want be evil is doing so performatively. Obviously.

[–] sunbeam60@lemmy.one 15 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

What about those of us who never joined?

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 0 points 2 hours ago

Dont you worry-- even if you never joined they made a 'virtual profile' for you anyway. LinkedIn did the same thing when they scanned trhough everyones address books as they were signing up. Your friends basically join you into it. The only way to get out of that is to have no friends or connections.

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

We are virtuous as fuck... i salute you brother

[–] gex@lemmy.world 30 points 20 hours ago

Anyone who stops using my product is a poo poo head

[–] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 19 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Anyone who claims someone is virtue signalling is virtue signalling. Except this one comment.

[–] spujb@lemmy.cafe 5 points 15 hours ago

i agree (and this comment here)

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (1 children)

I quit Facebook years ago because it's a shitty website full of spam.

IG has gone down the same path. It's like 70% suggested/sponsored content that's worthless at best if not disinfo, propaganda, fraud, etc.

Fash make trash.

I’m counting on these changes actually making our platforms better

HAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHHA - wheeeeeeeeeeze - HOOOOOHAHAHAHAHAHA-HA-HAAAAA!!!

The Meta boss was defiant in downplaying the possibility of a mass exodus of users.

I mean, he's probably not worrying too much about the US/EU markets, since in terms of MAU, Southeast Asia probably represents over 70% of that. Does anyone know what has been the general reaction to his bullshit over there?

Mary-Frances Makichen, a Threads user who has 253 followers, lamented that Meta and Zuckerberg “are counting on the fact that it’s too hard for people to leave Threads and IG.”

Pretty much. It's probably actually impossible to fully delete the accounts, fuckyzucky lives off users' data.

He's been taking testosterone hasn't he.

[–] xenomor@lemmy.world 20 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

20 years ago, a piece of shit like Mark Zuckerberg would have used a similarly meaningless term like “political correctness” instead. Made no sense then and makes no sense now. What is the problem exactly? Is there something wrong with having an ethical framework and applying it consistently? Or, having standards? Using this framing, any ideological viewpoint is inherently bad, including the nihilistic and hypocritical one that Zuckerberg himself is expressing here. It’s all just nonsense, and further evidence that the economy that plied this asshole with so much wealth is anything but a meritocracy.
