Speaking of weakening Canada:
- Of the 48 corporations on CAPP’s board, 30 were confirmed to be fully or majority foreign-owned, while seven more are very likely majority foreign-owned. Combined, that makes up 77 per cent of CAPP’s board.
- The overwhelming majority – about 97 per cent – of the oil produced by corporations on CAPP’s board in 2018 came from fully or majority foreign-owned corporations. Majority Canadian-owned corporations were responsible for less than three per cent of all oil production by corporations on CAPP’s board.
- Most of CAPP’s revenue comes from foreign-owned corporations because CAPP corporate membership fees are based on each member’s oil production. The greater the production, the higher the fees. Since 97 per cent of the oil produced by CAPP’s corporate board members comes from fully or majority foreign-owned corporations, their fees must account for about 97 per cent of CAPP’s revenue.
I am fine with environmentalists who care about clean earth, air and water that’ll we can all enjoy making it harder for polluting companies to make more money that they hoard for themselves.
Inb4 corporate taxes and trickle down—it’s been 40 years and there’s no trickle. And there’s orders of magnitude between the tax rate and the cleanup or remediation costs that usually are left to the provinces to figure out.. if at all.
JFC....the thing that's fucked about this, is that they're sorta right. It's lobby groups, funded by industry attack dogs like Energy United. And I'm not saying do away with lobbying by interest groups. Quite the opposite. My wife is technically a lobbyist. She works for a health care union and lobbies for better wages and work places treatment for the members of the union and the wider health care system. This is totally fine. If we do away with the massive political ~~donations~~ bribes given out by lobby groups for things like Oil and Gas, private Health firms, the military industrial complex.
shrugs IDFK.... people have been saying these things for decades, I don't think it'll change in my lifetime without something drastic happening....
