As an American that fully opposes 100% of what Trump is doing, PLEASE start preparing now. He's going to keep ratchet long the tension up until things start to escalate. It's his SOP.
But please also be advised that you have many, many allies state-side that will absolutely wreck the internal workings of the US if shit like this goes down. I'm fairly confident that there will be a full blown civil war here if anything ever pops off between the US and Canada.

So while I agree with you and I think we as a nation need to prepare, I think there are some subtle differences here.
Canada and the U.S. are allies (in theory)
Canada is a part of NATO, which the U.S. is still a member of
Canada is a part of the G7, which the U.S. is also a part of.
Canada has never been a part of the U.S. and left.
Ukraine was originally a part of the USSR which Putin is desperately trying to put back together.
Russia wants control of Ukraine and for them to not be a part of the EU or NATO.
2 different countries, but I still do agree with you that we as a country need to start using our low end booze, and even American bourbon to start preparing at home small batch artisanal Molotov cocktails.
I don’t see the U.S. invading militarily. They’re already severing ties with the world and it hasn’t even been a month.
This won’t end well for America. They’d take on so much debt to fight a war which not many people want.

I think you are overly optimistic in several points. Trump has already shown that the "ally" thing is meaningless.
We had a free trade agreement (NAFTA) that he didn't like so he tore it up to negotiate the USMCA. Now he doesn't like that and is threatening tariffs. As many people are asking "what use is an ally if you can't trust them to keep their word?". If they negotiate agreements but refuse to hold up their end of the bargain, what value is the agreement?
Trump has withdrawn from the Paris accord, is talking about withdrawing from NATO, and has threatened to withdraw from the G7 if we don't let Russia back in.
We have mineral wealth which he is very interested in right now, and a claim to large sections of the North that are becoming valuable for shipping, and which we are not able to defend. So yeah, we are in a bit of trouble. Blithely ignoring the issues is not helpful at this time.

Key point to remember: the us has not lead a successful invasion since normandie, and they are on a self destructive path. I would say its more likely they will lead an unsuccessful invasion on themselves autumn 2027

Fair points. But Invasion is the last resort. Ideally we have your government fold likely under pressure from domestic oligarchs. We have already seen these grifters come out.
I appreciate that people are correctly labeling it as a threat. Far too many have used overly soft language to downplay what's going on.
What does "taking it seriously" look like when Joe Shmoe does it? Am I building a bomb shelter? Am I printing copies of (some less discredited edition of) the Anarchist's Cookbook and leaving them at food banks?
Yes. All of the above. Any small resistance is resistance. Small acts become large when many do them. Learn how to protect yourself and your neighbor even if you're just reading up or watching videos. Educate yourself on anything that can help should an emergency of some sort arise. Take a first aid class, take a martial arts class, get registered as a gun owner or go to a local range just to educate yourself on how to, join a local drone enthusiasts group or buy a drone and practice with it, join a hacker collective, stock trauma medical supplies, learn how to grow food or cook, volunteer at a local food bank or shelter. encourage your political reps to divest CPP from American holdings and investment firms. Encourage your workplace unions to do the same.
Mostly...Do anything that will help your fellow Canadians even if you don't agree with their religious beliefs, sexual orientation, political ideologies etc. Coming together as a people is what we need right now.
oh god, NO, it doesn't make sense to be building a fucking nuclear bomb shelter in fucking Waterloo because I'm afraid of Trump. That is time and energy that is wasted, and if there is genuinely a threat, that means I've just made the threat more dangerous.
Even when your heart is in the right place, even when you are motivated by genuine threats, you can still make things worse by being stupid and getting manipulated. And even if the threat is real, it doesn't mean people aren't taking advantage of it to manipulate us into doing things that are not in our own self-interest.
Yea bomb shelter is exterme and useless. Sorry I didn't mention that. I assumed it was sarcasm. Silly me.
Don't bother focusing on the things you really can accomplish though. That would be dumb.
