I just bought a cool new sweater but once again I'm afraid to wear it because it's an off-white colour that will stain very easily πŸ˜…

I'm a slob and get a lot of stains on my white shirt but my detergent and washing machine is strong enough to take care of it.

[–] Sauvandu60@lemmy.ml 1 points 6 hours ago

No, i'm not'

[–] gremlin_queen@lemm.ee 2 points 14 hours ago

I just have realistic expectations for myself. I know that I have the hand eye coordination of a five year old and dress to reflect that.

[–] Jimmycrackcrack@lemmy.ml 1 points 15 hours ago

Kinda, but I'm more or less resigned to the inevitability of it and I'm actually proud of myself, like a little kid, when I go out to eat and DON'T somehow end up wearing part of my dinner

[–] IttihadChe@lemmy.ml 1 points 15 hours ago

Only mildly. Some which I especially like I'll save for special occasions, but I'm not scared of just wearing a stained shirt to work/the store because clothes are made to be worn and life happens while you're wearing them and other people know that.

It isn't paranoia. I know how many items I have had to discard because of small stains. Light colors are a waste of money.

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

Isn't everyone?

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I own nothing white for that reason.

[–] AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com 6 points 1 day ago

I can respect that

[–] WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Clothes are meant to be used. One day, my whites will get stained, and that’s ok. I will buy new ones in the future. So mote it be.

Clothes are meant to be used

Only if you're not the one doing the frigging washing and ironing.

[–] Gabadabs@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 hours ago

As if everyone is actually ironing their clothes...

If you live somewhere with mosquitos, you can't win.

Dark colors: better for stains, worse for avoiding mosquitos

Light colors: worse for stains, better for avoiding mosquitos

Wouldn't want to embarass yourself

[–] Soapbox1858@lemm.ee 6 points 1 day ago

Yes. I don't really buy white clothing for that reason. I also don't like black clothing because of lint showing up so easily. Plus it gets really hot where I live. Wearing black out in the sun is just extra miserable.

[–] Nemo@midwest.social 6 points 1 day ago

It's not paranoia, I put on a white shirt two hours ago and it's already stained.

Haha what the fuck?

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've dressed in nothing but dark colors since the 1980's and worn black underwear since they became readily available to me (early 90's?).

I snowboard in very bright colors though. Being rescued takes priority over looking clean.

[–] 000999@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Surely snowboarding in white clothing isn't ideal for being rescued

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 3 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

"bright colors"

White doesn't work for obvious reasons but other colors found in nature can make you blend in.

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 4 points 1 day ago

Someone doesn't have young kids. I'm resigned to the fact that clothes of any colour will get stained or ripped or damaged in some way.

[–] ocean@lemmy.selfhostcat.com 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If you don’t dry your clothes you won’t have this issue

[–] bananaa@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Live every moment like you’re in a wet T-shirt contest.

I meant hang dry😭

[–] Badabinski@kbin.earth 6 points 1 day ago

My dryer broke like 6 years ago, and I just never cared enough to fix it. You can definitely still get permanent stains on line-dried clothes, but I'll grant that it's much harder without all the heat. I have one white cotton T-shirt that I've been going Ahab on for fucking months. It wasn't even expensive, I just want to see if I can get the trifecta of mustard/ketchup/fucked up molybdenum disulfide grease stains out.

[–] communism@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

No. I've noticed that I shouldn't cook or eat red food with a white top but I bought an apron for that reason. Outside of cooking and eating, I've not had any problems with stains.

Also stains are not a huge deal. I only get rid of clothes if they are completely falling apart and not fixable with a sewing machine.

[–] alykanas@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago

Yep. I basically wear rags around the house for this reason.

[–] otto@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This is a big reason why all my clothes are either black, very dark blue, very dark gray, or very dark green. The only things I own that are white are my socks, and I only wear them about half the time anyway.

The (apparent but elusive) hole in my bottom lip and Spaghetti Bolognese are the primary cause for my disquiet.

Context: am old fart from the time of white work shirts and still like white or pale colours today. Wtf are dark suits and dark shirts about? That's clubbing clobber.
