A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

WarThunder is ripe with military nerds that love being right about their favourite tank/plane/whatever. Sometimes, these nerds have access to official documents proving that they're right. And sometimes these nerds go on to post classified military intel for the sake of being right.

[–] parody@lemmings.world 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

What’s the post frequency like? At some point you freaking quarantine every new post…

I know that saying “you shut down your business“ pretty much but if you’re in the country whose secrets are being leaked you might prefer being limited to a few dozen posts a day compared to dying in an air raid

[–] Darorad@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

A few times a year, the Wikipedia page has a table of them

warthunder players are often memed on for leaking classified military documents

Remember when he humble bragged classified intel in the Oval Office to foreign leaders? I remember, but apparently the world has forgotten.

"We are currently clean on OPSEC" 🤡

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 week ago

I will do all we can to enforce 100% OPSEC”—operations security. “I welcome other thoughts.”

More like OPSEGS amirite? Lol jk jk 👊🇱🇷🔥

[–] count_dongulus@lemmy.world 63 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What a wasted opportunity. The angle should have been "Top secret military plans intentionally leaked to the liberal media". The MAGAs would have sent poor little Pete to prison and the cabinet would be eyeing each other with distrust for the next four years.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They already are eyeing eachother with distrust.

That’s 100% why Vance was offering prayers in the chat.

[–] Ioughttamow@fedia.io 51 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Brilliant, leak the plans so the enemy will think it’s a fake, then do it anyways. Like a reverse mincemeat

[–] Eheran@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago

The last thing the enemy will expect is a 8th suicidal charge into their defensive positions! It is a brilliant plan!

the party of "common sense" and "competence" btw

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 37 points 1 week ago (1 children)

also "party of personal responsibility" when they choose to not investigate any of this

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

Party of law and order too, after breaking classified communication laws.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, but if it’s this difficult for a white cis-het man to not text top secret documents to the wrong person, imagine how many times a DEI hire would have done it by now.

[–] Jiggle_Physics@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 week ago

Let's ask Gen. Brown Jr. how many times he has leaked war plans through messengers. I am sure he could go on for hours.

This post accurately exemplifies the whole purpose of this channel.

And I'm dying from laughter. Absolutely brilliant - thank you for sharing this!

In his defence, he was blackout drunk at the time.

[–] Comment105@lemm.ee 10 points 1 week ago

I recently saw Adam Savage's site was selling demerit patches for the workshop.

I think it would be funny to see a bunch of military demerit patches designed for the dumb shit Hegseth does. They could be sewn to his prison shirt if y'all manage to get him in prison eventually.

[–] Ghosthacked@lemm.ee 10 points 1 week ago

This guy is rocking maybe 93 iq on a good day.

Mediocre white guy hire to lead the nation's defense.

[–] sepi@piefed.social 7 points 1 week ago

It wasn't Hegseth because he'd send a message in a bottle

[–] verity_kindle@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm confused, are we mocking him because he's incompetent or because he was caught driving under the influence? I can't prepare pithy remarks until I have more data!

[–] Microplasticbrain@lemm.ee 6 points 1 week ago

Pete smegma strikes again

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

In ~~2027~~ 2017 Trump had to replace all of his principals, either due to scandal or because they disagreed with him.

It sounds like Hegseth is going to get ousted due to sheer incompetence.

Unless highlighting Hegseth's diminished capacity might draw attention to Trump's.

[–] SynopsisTantilize@lemm.ee 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 days ago

I was predicting the darkest future (fixed! Thanks!)

Trumpers get ousted for disloyalty and nothing else.

[–] carrylex@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Off topic: Why is there a "gift" code and various tracking paramters in the url?

Url does seem to work without them: https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2025/03/trump-administration-accidentally-texted-me-its-war-plans/682151/

[–] conicalscientist@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

The gift code means a subscriber is sharing access to the content.

Though I don't doubt the sites use this as a double purpose for tracking.
