40 years a prisoner, probably regularly told they were going to be killed. I honestly don't think I'd do that for 100 million dollars!

l was going to comment that at least he's free and has some money, but then I read this:

Hakamata’s sister Hideko, who had long campaigned for his release, told CNN last year that decades of imprisonment had wrought irreversible damage on her brother’s mental health.

Hakamata was “living in his own world,” she said.

“Sometimes he smiles happily, but that’s when he’s in his delusion… We have not even discussed the trial with Iwao because of his inability to recognize reality.”

Yeah. ☹️ Sorry, didn't mean to bring anyone down, but I think it's important to get this info out there. The good news is he's now got a loving family member to take care of his needs. So if he's "delusional" and smiles, he's probably living in a better world than ours...

40 years in death row is a fate worse than death itself. That's a lifetime of torture. Whoever is responsible should be sent to the mines.
