It's really quiet outside right now; fewer birds, very few insects buzzing about no matter what time of day it is, no rabbits and maybe one or two squirrels. There's a shocking lack of life compared to way back when. Everyone outside looks anxious, reserved. Smiles are tight, and even children (in the neighborhood/grocery store) look tired and worn out. In public where I am (U.S.), the mood is very heavy, as if people are collectively processing horrible news... Maybe we're finally past collective denial. I don't know. I'm grateful communities like this one exist, and I hope everyone is having a better time of it.

This is the place for discussing the potential collapse of modern civilization and the environment.
Collapse, in this context, refers to the significant loss of an established level or complexity towards a much simpler state. It can occur differently within many areas, orderly or chaotically, and be willing or unwilling. It does not necessarily imply human extinction or a singular, global event. Although, the longer the duration, the more it resembles a ‘decline’ instead of collapse.
