When I was younger, and living in a house with a lot of friends, we had one friend who worked at a sex shop, who would bring boxes of out of date porn magazines over sometimes, and he'd always arrive and say "Porn! and Forums, for the Laaaaaydies!" Because those were mostly stories not pictures. Always there were also the ones, I can't remember the name, with naked men but he knew those were for gay guys not women.

There are probably studies done on why women tend to prefer written porn, but off the top of my head: it's easier to find material that's made for women's titillation rather than men's. Women are more likely to have been raised with both body-shaming and sex-shaming, and keeping the visuals hidden in your brain may feel safer. Also some people (raises hand) are more turned on by scenarios than bodies.
