It took me a lot longer than I'd like to admit for me to figure out that this was a reference to SNW, and not someone trying to push a far-right conspiracy theory. I think I need to take a break from the internet for a while.

Maybe it's time for a DS9 rewatch....

It's a good time to watch ds9. We're only a year away from the Bell riots. ;)

[–] UESPA_Sputnik@feddit.de 8 points 1 year ago

The reunification of Ireland and Northern Ireland will also take place next year.

[–] Ramin_HAL9001@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Bell Riots took place in 2024, so less than a year away now.

[–] DharmaCurious@startrek.website 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sept. 2024. You're right. Just a bit less than a year.

The scariest part, though, is that sanctuary cities almost seem like a better alternative than our current approach to the housing crisis of "lol fucking die" :/

Yeah, and also according to Deep Space 9 lore, the massacre in ~~skid row~~ the sanctuary city of LA was publicized in the media and led to an outpouring of public support for policy reform that improved the conditions for the underprivileged.

In this timeline, that seems incredibly optimistic to the point of being impossible.

Public support I can buy. Housing first, Medicare for all, cannabis legalization all poll incredibly well. The government doing it, regardless of who's in power? That's fantasy. Lol. I'd be more likely to believe we got transporters, or the Elon musk has a replicator and the rest of us aren't allowed to use it. Lol.

This was on Mastodon this morning.

Honestly, star trek hasn't always hit the nail on the head for the circumstances, but in this case, they got the vibe just perfectly.

Star Trek notwithstanding, we're definitely living in the era of Transmetropolitan's made-up website names.

I just binged all 7 seasons and now I'm empty inside lol I fucking love that show so much.

Thank you. I was about to tell the OP what they could go do with themselves.

It will be a cake walk compared to the nuclear war in the 2050s. 30% of those alive in the world won't survive that along with 600k species.

Just pointing out that any & all of these dates may have slipped due to temporal incursions in the Prime timeline by Romulans and others.

Temporal War leaves its artifacts in terms of non critical deviations - the river of the Prime timeline is very resilient. They key events will happen give or take a few decades.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Also don't forget that we are living in a period of disinformation and misinformation ... our current timeline might be completely corrupted because corporately owned media may just manipulate dates, times and whole periods to 'readjust' or rewrite history in the coming decades. What we know as 2023 today may be rewritten or changed in the future to adjust for whatever political, military or social changes that are to come .... future historians might get our timeline completely screwed up because of the political and social games we are playing or will play in this timeline.

Or the events are correct but the dates are changed in the future to correspond to whatever political / social changes that will happen after these catastrophic events .... like the old saying "history is written by the victors"

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

LOL

So far, all the slippage of major events has been downstream - Eugenics war and WW3 moved back from late 20th century to mid 21st century.

But who knows, could the Romulans inadvertently move something forward.

Just 40 more years of bad stuff to get through before we get to the good part.
