A community for discussing events around the World
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

From the end of the article
But despite supporting Ukraine at the beginning of the full-scale war, he was at a military recruitment center in Moscow, alongside other foreign nationals, on September 5, 2023, Russian border data shows.
His social media posts show a distinct change in his views — one identified by Important Stories as belonging to Gloss suggest he believed in conspiracy theories involving Ukraine, and claimed NATO was an evolution of Adolf Hitler's Nazi party.
It seems they convinced him that NATO and Ukraine are Nazis. Typical stuff from the play book. Dude just went all in on it. Pretty sad, he had his whole life ahead of him.
Technocrit just likes to stir shit. The reactions are what he wants.
Who'd guess the cia deputy director would raise such a gullible piece of shit
I remember times when I rebelled against my parents and did some pretty stupid shit, but kids today are on a different level.
Some people consider Ukraine to be a neonazi stronghold. So fighting Ukraine would be fighting against fascist nazis. That logic is prevalent with conspiracy nuts/scammers like Alex Jones.
Also very prevalent with tankies.
Tankies don't have their own beliefs. They're just mouthpieces for the Russian and Chinese government.
Just look at ML or Hexbear right here on Lemmy. The tankies love Putin and Xi. Horseshoe is a law not a theory.
Sounds like a good kill. Chose the wrong side, should have stayed home.
I hate fascism.
So he fought for Putin to invade Ukraine? That's some top tier thinking there.
I certainly don't recommend following the link to his obituary from the article and reading the entries in the traitor's tribute book.
Example of some of those entries:
Edit: Somebody noticed.
Since they took the page down...
The obit got pulled already

Oh--I can't see an edit or a spoiler, but I appreciate the screenshots.
Ended up answering my own question once I remembered the button that sent me to the lemmy.zip version of the thread, seems like that instance is failing to fetch the updates rather than this being a browser/app issue. That's also why I'm double-replying to this comment rather than editing my other one here. Might be worth a message to the .zip instance admin(s) in case something's busted, just going to check around first and see if it's a known issue.
Edit that you might not see for a while: Looks like they've been doing some updates and other maintenance recently, might just take some time for the dust to settle from all of that. Can see the federation status between .world and .zip here.
Interesting, looks like it's visible from almost all other instances, although I did find a couple where it's not. I can't see any differences due to lemmy version either (most instances are 19.11, where the edit is visible, but midwest.social is also on .11 and it's not visible-- whereas lemmy.nz is on .10 and it's also not there). Maybe I'll shoot a message over to admin like you suggested.
Thx for posting the screenshots
(Possibly invisible edit to prior comment)

Seems like they're aware of ongoing issues, maybe give it a couple days and see if things improve first. In any event, my pleasure. Gotta preserve art when you find it.
That country turns fascists into sunflowers
What an hero. They should all an hero themselves.
He doesn't afraid of anything
Completely aside from what he was doing in Russia, he gives me the same vibe as Ché Cook from The OC.
Chris Pratt was in the OC?
