I first started playing Violet a month and a half ago. A couple weeks into playing my wife expressed interest in playing too. So I got a copy of Scarlet for her. Since I was so far ahead of her (both in the actual game and knowledge of the games, I have been playing since LG/FR, while she has only played GO) I decided to take a break from Violet to finally play Shield. I purchased it when it came out but never left the starting town.

I have now beaten Shield and use the raids there to level my Pokémon in Violet. In Violet I have beaten all of the gyms, all of the Titans, and just have 1 more Star Base. When trying to join a Tera raid I can only join random ones, the ones on be board always say I failed to join. But doing the random raids I end up with so many 1*-3*s. When I am looking for raids I am having the same issue, they are all lower.

Even before I became the champion in Shield it was faster to level by transferring my Pokémon.

ya raids are busted. Before the dlc came out I was having no problems getting in but with the influx of players because of the dlc it has become nearly impossible to get in.

Is there pre-endgame content in the DLC? I am going to get it eventually, but if I can get some exp from it now to help me get ready for the Elite 4 I may grab it sooner rather than later.

Interesting, I found it to be the opposite for me. It's incredibly tedious for me in Shield, but in Violet since I can send my pokemon out with R and just keep attacking wild pokemon without entering battle, it made grinding a lot easier for me. As a bonus, you get to farm pokemon materials for TMs.

I will say that raiding in Violet got worse after the DLC came out. There was definitely too many people hosting 1-3 star raids when they're easy to do solo, but I admit I was definitely one of those people too when I first started playing.

Raids in SwSh are a joke so it's definitely a lot easier to get candies to level Pokémon there. 4 and 5 star raids in SV are challenging to where you're not guaranteed to beat it, meanwhile.

Of course, not every Pokémon is in SwSh, there are notable holes, so there's still merit to grinding SV raids. The problem is you are expected to have trained your Pokémon in terms of EVs... and the multiplayer has a lot of technical and design problems on top of that.

The problem is not that I am not beating the higher raids, it is that I was never seeing them.

Yeah that's also annoying. SwSh has the same problem at times but it feels like they're a bit rarer in SV...?

@nocturne213@lemm.ee Maybe try again (at least until you can refresh)? The game doesn't try to connect to the exact same raid, just one with the same Pokémon, tera-type and number of stars.

But yeah, the board doesn't work well, it's generally more convenient to do the ones in your save (you shouldn't have raids lower than 3 stars if you completed the game though)

I've done enpugh raids in SV that I can 1 to 100 any pokemon on an instant thanks to all the exp candies I have. High level raids drop them a lot, and some events can get you up to 999 Large candies.

But do those happen before you beat say the 5th gym? Because I was struggling to keep up with game progression.

Lower level raids still drop lower tier candies. Mid game grind shouldn't be too bad when doing the overworld auto-battles, I don't remember what those are called.
