As well as equipping and training security agencies in surveillance, the Fund is being used to bankroll the development of mass-scale biometric identity systems across the African continent and is awarding lucrative contracts to well-connected European security companies in the process.

This is it. It's here. The neo-colonial European project for the neoliberal age. It hasn't fundamentally changed in the last thirty years. Wait until you learn about Frontex and the externalization of the EU border. Wait until you learn about all the colonial and imperial exploitation EU members still do. And it's largely coordinated and directed by unelected and unaccountable bodies and people in the EU. It sounds a bit harsh at first, but I think in many ways the EU accomplished quietly and diplomatically what the Nazis failed to, namely a construct which could exercise imperial relations between European nations as well as their cheap resource and labour colonies abroad.
