A little extra traffic will go to reddit... but fuck them. They're taking monetary value away from your account, so ya might as well use the coins you have as you see fit (while you still can). Fuck u/spez and fuck reddit

I can't imagine having paid money for reddit bux.

[-] Nepenthe@kbin.social 36 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Eh, people kept awarding me, so I do have a couple left over from all that. Wasn't gonna use them because that would make me look like a tool, but this idea might be funny enough to sway me

[-] BlackSpasmodic@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

This is my exact scenario and thinking

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I like the other idea of finding posts about Lemmy and awarding those. Or if you have Alts make a post. Award the post, use an alt. Use that free gold to award another until you run out of gold awarding your own posts about going to Lemmy.

[-] Alto@kbin.social 10 points 1 year ago

I'd wager a large chunk of awards given out are through the free coins they'd give away/coins gotten from your post being gilded.

[-] MrShankles@reddthat.com 7 points 1 year ago

I had some from awards I had gotten in the past. I also did buy some to try and secretly award my wife on one of her posts (I was just trying to be a sweet at the time. She did find out. It was still sweet)

But I also deleted an account that had some coins without thinking about it... cause it didn't matter. Main point though; fuck them

I used to have Premium, to make up for not getting ads on Apollo. (Plus, you know, ad free viewing on old.reddit.com on the desktop.) You get an allotment of coins each month. Canceled last month, but still have the coins.

[-] RufusLoacker@feddit.it 1 points 1 year ago

I'm just curious, do you not have an ad blocker on your browser? I've never paid anything, and I still haven't seen any ads

[-] kratoz29@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I have some coins and have never gave them any dime, if you don't count my personal data ofc.

[-] Decoy321@lemmy.world 40 points 1 year ago

Why bother? It's just driving more engagement to the company. They'll be worthless either way regardless of whether or not you go to the site.

[-] kratoz29@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

This is my take too, let sink the "treasure" with the boat.

[-] MrShankles@reddthat.com 4 points 1 year ago

I respect that too, just a difference in opinion. Maybe it gave me some closure to an era, or just simply a little bit of petty satisfaction. But that was the first time I've opened reddit since I found the fediverse and the last time (albeit for maybe search results if they're ever relevant, but I bet someone around here could answer the call first)

[-] Deez@lemm.ee 29 points 1 year ago

Maybe awarding a pro Lemmy post would be more useful.

[-] realitista@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

I gave away 26 Reddit golds on /r/redditalternatives

[-] MrShankles@reddthat.com 8 points 1 year ago

I'm not a smart man, just spiteful sometimes

[-] drekly@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I'm just posting my own, in relevant discussions, on the very rare times I go back, ensuring to add links to Lemmy, a link to memmy, and a link to an android app, to remove as much friction from the transition as possible.

[-] thenofootcanman@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

Why bother? Just leave reddit

[-] MrShankles@reddthat.com 5 points 1 year ago

Oh, I've been gone. Deleted all my accounts except one, and never went back... until I saw that the coins would go away. Figured I'd put them somewhere fun real quick.

Not surprisingly, the first comment on the post I awarded (on r/pics) was a 10y premium account with the most basic-ass response that was "totally not a reddit shill".

Verbatim, they commented:

"Ok, it's been weird... but weird stuff is what the place is all about!"

Take from that what ya will, but looks AI generated to me. Doesn't matter, I've been loving bullshitting around the fediverse since the day I joined and have relegated reddit to the level of quora. It might answer some questions if I'm searching for something specific, but I'll be asking around here first

[-] thenofootcanman@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

"Go back to reddit and interact with is some more fellow spez haters" sounds more like a post that was written by a reddit bot shill

[-] MrShankles@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

I mean... your rational has merit. I don't really have a way to definitively prove I'm not a "reddit bot shill." I would assume my grammer, wording, or whatever, would kinda show I'm not a bot?

Am I bot and don't even know it yet? Hell of an identity crisis, that's for sure

[-] Moonrise2473@feddit.it 1 points 1 year ago

Remember to delete and remove all the comments and posts with an automated before deleting the account, otherwise reddit will keep it and continue to monetize it

[-] DrQuint@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

Or... I can simply NEVER use reddit outside of old.reddit and not engage with a feature I never engaged with before. How about that?

[-] MrShankles@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

I mean, I guess whatever makes ya happy man! Different folks with different strokes or something like that lol

[-] somethingsnappy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I had plenty, but deleted the account. Oh well.

[-] teacosts@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Well hey, it was going to perish either way.

[-] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

My account was suspended because a bot mod from /r/justiceserved banned me because i had the gall to reply to a post from /r/joerogan that made it to the front page.

I had said Joe Rogan looked like Dr. Evil's older brother.

Then when pointing out the irony of such a bully moderator move, they banned my entire account.

So i shall simply be content to watch Reddit eat itself and die.

May their IPO be the sequel to Pets.com.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I have them all away this morning to random comments.

[-] forkball@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

This isn't really a shower thought...but it stays up cuz fuck u/spez

[-] MrShankles@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago

Sorry, I'll be posting another actual shower thought later. Maybe on my lunch break if I get one

[-] klyde@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I've hardly seen any actual shower thoughts on here. Just like how no stupid questions isn't being used correctly either.
