I feel like if a cop came by a few times and saw you still going around they would probably pull you over just to see if you're having an episode or something, then probably tell you to go home. I think you'd only really get in trouble if you were a dick about it.

Imagine a lights and sirens pursuit around a roundabout.

fwiw, I personally know for a fact that 15 to 20 minutes is fine. Ask me about other ironically bad first date ideas

How about other ironically bad first date ideas?

[–] g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago

One of my personal faves: Told this girl in college that we were gonna go to a place called Donnie's steakhouse. She got somewhat dressed up for the occasion. Donnie's is just McDonalds. If they've got a good sense of humor (and she did), they'll get a good kick out of it. Although it may take a day or two.

Driving? You're fine.

Drifting? You'll get yer peepee whacked.

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 21 points 1 week ago

[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Now I wanted to know the answer.

What happens if a self driving car has a glitch and get stuck infinitely in an round about ?

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 week ago

Prob’ly towed. Self driving cars can’t recognize police. There are several videos of robotaxis horrifically malfunctioning and police can’t do much other than box them in and call the company to have them remotely shut off and towed.

[–] acidbattery@lemm.ee 8 points 1 week ago

You get stuck in vehicular purgatory.

[–] uawarebrah@sh.itjust.works 30 points 1 week ago

Basically Nascar tbh

[–] Deestan@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago

If you confuse and distract other drivers, that's endangering traffic and police will remove you.

[–] not_IO@lemmy.blahaj.zone 27 points 1 week ago (2 children)

in germany driving around pointlessly is illegal i think

[–] Fenrir@lemmings.world 5 points 1 week ago

I mean, it's Germany

[–] Tiefkuehlkost@feddit.org 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It is, but you have to do something really abstract, like this meme, to not be able to come up with some excuse that nobody cares to verify.

[–] Mycatiskai@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago

I wonder if it came about in the times when fuel was very expensive. A German physio I used to go to, told me when he was a kid they would have car free Sunday. Everyone walked or biked and the roads were full of pedestrians, it certainly would have cut 1/7th of the fuel usage.

I believe the UK has a law for this and it's 7 times.

[–] neidu3@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Norway here. I'm sure I've heard 7 somewhere too.

American here, although I have no clue 7 sounds fine so we're calling it. Get on with it.

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

American here

Too complicated for you.

[–] ouRKaoS@lemmy.today 15 points 1 week ago

Even the word roundabout is too complicated... My GPS refers to them as "traffic circles".

[–] gedhrel@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

There's no such law in the UK.

I remember someone tested this. They lasted like eight hours until some neighbor called a cop

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 week ago

Snitches get stitches.

Despite what many people think/have heard, most places do not have a specific law against doing loops in a roundabout. And when they do it is often a local ordinace(mostly small towns trying to prevent a local car community from driving up and down the main street all night). Although other laws or regulations can apply depending on circumstances.

Things like impeding/obstructing traffic, careless/reckless driving, noise ordinance, etc. But if you're driving around one in an industrial area at night, the worst you'll get is probably some accusing questions and a "warning".

[–] BMW_stick@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

A cousin and I have been competing for years to see how many times around we can go before we either stymie another driver or get pulled over.

I'm currently winning at 43. Neither of us have ever been pulled over, it's always some irate grandma who refuses to enter even though I give her plenty of room.

[–] Toes@ani.social 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (9 children)

My understanding is you're not allowed to make a full loop unless it's unsafe to proceed.

Edit: sorry seems I was ambiguous. Meant going fully around and continue around.

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 8 points 1 week ago

What!? I think I've done a loop at least once when missing the exit (to catch it properly in the second attempt).

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Where on earth did you hear this?

It's happened to me more than once that I missed my exit on an unfamiliar roundabout, and what you do is you keep going around and exit through the right exit in the next loop.

It's embarrassing, but perfectly legal.

Just make sure you pull to the left/inner lane (if there are multiple lanes in the roundabout), and move to the outer lane only when your exit is coming up. A pox on people who keep to the outer lane when they're not taking the exit.

In my country it's forbidden to drive in the roundabout for longer than necessary to reach the desired exit.

A dew days ago ist saw an older Dude in a Bike, taking all the left turns in one of our roundabout. (Germany) I know that he rode for at least 3 hours. He wanted to reach 200 rounds, i think. Hope he made it.
