Waze - A Google navigation app

[โ€“] casadia880@lemmy.ml 7 points 10 hours ago

Waze, it's a navigation app owned by Google

So the source page just doesn't exist. But https://mapsinterlude.wordpress.com/ does. When you visit it, this post is easily found, but do they list any of their sources? No. I checked a few sites that list top apps by country and just checked Denmark, because that's where I'm from and temu was #8.

[โ€“] MrSoup@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I took it from instagram, it's probably not correct. If you confirm that this information is incorrect, I can delete the post so as not to spread misinformation.

[โ€“] RedSnt@feddit.dk 1 points 2 hours ago

No, no it's fine, I wasn't trying to dismiss the posting of this, it's just that I'm sad I couldn't find any sources. I found a bit odd that Temu was #1 where I live, and although it's up there, I'm still curious how they got their data.

[โ€“] Fleppensteijn@feddit.nl 18 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

This can't be correct. No way people use Signal more than Whatsapp in NL. And Temu, this app Google Play tries to spam you with? Why?

And Temu, this app Google Play tries to spam you with? Why?

Because Google Play spams you with it, I guess.

[โ€“] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 27 points 21 hours ago

It is the most downloaded app in 2024

I think most Dutchies already had Whatsapp installed prior to 2024.

[โ€“] De_Narm@lemmy.world 167 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's depressing as fuck.

[โ€“] Cherry@piefed.social 41 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I know. Cheap crap is a stain.

[โ€“] M137@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

It's not about cheap crap, it's about the predatory nature of almost all apps shown and how well-known it is that they're ethically bad.

The Netherlands continues to be my top choice for a place to live if I end up fleeing my country. If they'll have me.

[โ€“] Lumisal@lemmy.world 9 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago) (1 children)

It's expensive. Don't forget to buy the floor for your apartment.

Edit: I'm serious about the floor. Apartments don't come with flooring included.

[โ€“] ramenshaman@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

I live in San Francisco, I'm used to things being expensive. The floor thing is crazy though.

[โ€“] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm sure a lot of us here can say that's the only one on the map we have

can it though, or just claims to be able to? as I know no apps without root privileges cqn do such things. unless it just searches things in the gallery recycle bin, in which case it is again useless because the gallery app can be used for that

Serbia has an itchy delete finger, apparently.

Loving Bulgaria. Everybody's doing social networks, meanwhile they're "ooh, a puzzle game!"

[โ€“] FireRetardant@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago

Temu is more like a capitalism network than a social network, but yeah Chad Bulgaria playing tetris instead of giving into consumerism.

[โ€“] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 1 day ago

You know, I mostly hear about how Soviet-looking Bulgaria still is from my family over that way. Everyone playing Tetris adds to that.

[โ€“] Drusas@fedia.io 14 points 1 day ago

Goddamn right Crimea is part of Ukraine.

[โ€“] olafurp@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Out of everything the most depressing is Klarna. It's a buy now pay later microloans that should just be forbidden.

[โ€“] boovard@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

I don't know if it was the case in other countries but in Belgium a very popular app used to store loyalty cards was bought by Klarna. It was not really clear that you could continue to use the old app for a while and not switch to Klarna. So I know a lot of people that just installed the app just to be able to have access to their cards.

[โ€“] JustEnoughDucks@feddit.nl 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

We get a lot of advertising for it here in Belgium and tons of webshops support it, sadly. What a trash company.

[โ€“] leds@feddit.dk 1 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Not just support it but sometimes it's the only option, so you also have to support their business even if you just paying upfront. (and hand over your personal data)

[โ€“] carl_dungeon@lemmy.world 60 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (5 children)

People really use temu? I thought it was all crap.

Edit:

[โ€“] smeg@feddit.uk 30 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is most downloaded not most used, so I'd reckon a lot of people heard about it, downloaded it, used it, realised it was all crap, then deleted it.

[โ€“] Thorry84@feddit.nl 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

People would rather download the app to figure that out than just visit the website? That's still depressing.

But probably temu was like get 50% off your first order via the app or something like that?

Only Netherland and Bulgaria can be proud of themselves.

[โ€“] huppakee@lemm.ee 27 points 1 day ago

Nobody can be as proud of themselves (because of this list I mean) as Lithuania: "LT72 is a website intended to prepare Lithuanian residents for emergencies. It allows residents to learn how to be be prepared for an accident, ..."
