Hey.

My phone is a Pixel 8A Graphene OS Phone. I Want to make this phone a Hardended phone. A safe phone. Privacy friendly phone. Not a Watched or tapped into phone. Basically limit the spying and intercepting and get control of the spying mechanisms that may be at play.

The phone has Sandboxed google.play services.

(grapheneos) and 1 profile (owner)

The phone has a kyc sim card. ( currently no way out)

Thanks.

Put the phone in airplane mode. Only turn off airplane mode when you want to check your voicemail or make a call. This will stop all celltower tracking which is the only type of tracking GrapheneOS can't do anything about.

I'm using VoIP with my phone in airplane mode. Calls come in over wifi if the phone is connected and the voip app is active. When I'm not connected, calls are sent to voicemail (in my case are sent to my email account as an mp3 attachment)

My voip provider is very kyc. I'm thinking of switching to JMPChat.

The phone is still using 02 Wi-Fi calling is this okay? Can I take it off airplane mode when I wish to use data? Whilst travelling.

What VPN should I use for this phone?

I've used Mullvad and Proton. There are others but those are the only two I've used with a good rep.

Is it okay to take off Airplane mode whilst travelling and need to use data, when out?

And is 02 Wi-Fi calling OK at home?

[–] RodgeGrabTheCat@sh.itjust.works 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Sure, disable airplane mode whenever you need to. I just find a public wifi network but my phone usage is very minimal.

That how I mostly make and receive phone calls, over wifi at home.

Thanks for the reply.

I will definitely stick with Airplane mode.

Plus 02 Wi-Fi calling but the sim card is kyc. Is this still fine?

Also, under my private DNS in my phone settings, there is an " Off * " Automatic " Private DNS provider hostname. "

If I go with ivpn, should I set that to Automatic and leave It on Automatic?

Thank you.

As I understand it "automatic" will use the DNS of the VPN provider. I always leave it on automatic.
