Strange notion of old
Old enough, as in "my infant is old enough to eat solid foods."
My suggestion: Raspberry Pi (or any other computer) connected via an HDMI port. Use any photo program of your choosing. Many, many available for linux.
Fucking around with TV OSes is a PITA and is best to just be avoided.
A quick web search suggests the native Art Mode function is probably the best.
My solution was HDMI in as others suggested. Currently a picture slideshow screensaver for Kodi, previously a rooted firestick.
i love my kodi setup for photo screensaver! Only recently surpassed by a custom made home assistant dashboard!!
Maybe add an Android device to one of the HDMI ports?
