I'd argue this isn't internal US news considering an international reporter was shot. TWO international reporters shot in a single day. I also wish so badly I could edit the title to more accurately reflect what happened. "Police shoot reporter in the back."

Better gif would have been the pan across capturing the cop deliberately turning and aiming at the reporters

I love the dichotomy of calling them riots and then the only people causing any chaos or harm are the police.

Edit: Specifically calling out the news video that autoplays on their site.

"Hit" huh? Were rubber bullets just flying around randomly? The word we need here is "shot".

[–] Deestan@lemmy.world 56 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I wish we'd stop allowing them to be referred to as "rubber bullets", which sounds sorta safe.

These things are metal slugs that break bones and rupture organs. They can crush your skull and kill you outright:

I'll keep repeating this because I think it's important

Wear safety glasses

Not sunglasses, or shades or prescription glasses

Wear actual industrial rated workers safety glasses.

If you get those shots in your face, you're going to lose an eye or both eyes. Safety glasses are designed for this kind of stuff and they actually work. It will stop those projectiles from damaging your eyes.

Cops all over the world are known to purposefully shoot people's faces and heads. After the fact they will just argue that it didn't happen, it was accidental, it was chaotic, it was dangerous, etc, etc .... it won't matter after the fact if you lose an eye or end up completely blind.

Wear safety glasses, they're easy to find and easy to use.

A 9News reporter has been caught in the crossfire of chaotic protests that have engulfed parts of Los Angeles.

Looks to me like the guy turned and intentionally shot her completely unprovoked. I can't tell what was happening In front of her though if she was really in crossfire.

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 90 points 1 day ago (3 children)

100% what happened. The uncropped video is plain as fucking day. He looks back and forth around the area and the second that she's turned and the camera looks around, he just fucking shoots her. Only way he could argue anything was thinking the camera was a gun. The giant bulky shoulder camera. If so, then dude doesn't deserve the ability to drive a CAR, never mind work in law enforcement.

[–] telllos@lemmy.world 19 points 22 hours ago

He can't argue that because they had been standing there for a very long time doing the interview. They didn't turn a corner, and appear outa nowhere.

They moved slightly yo the left. And for a cop, you should never move left. The over lord and technobaron don't allow that.

Dozens and dozens of journalists were shot this way during the first Trump regime after the George Floyd protests.

You dare show people unhappy at Dearest Leader?

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Dozens and dozens of journalists were shot this way during the first Trump regime after the George Floyd protests.

And they voted him in again, it seems like a lot of people are real fuckin slow at realising you get what you vote for

[–] aramova@infosec.pub 2 points 3 hours ago

So I'll tell you the real scary secret...

This is exactly what a lot of them voted for. This is exactly what a lot of them have been wanting.

"Delay"... 2h... Man, that isn't a delay, that's normal.

I not accusing any of you, I just hate that unrealistic expectation some have that a reply should be done in less than 10 minutes. 😅

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

I only said that because I was actively replying to other people lol

[–] dhhyfddehhfyy4673@fedia.io 2 points 22 hours ago

Thank you. No worries at all about the delay; didn't even check till now anyways.

She's just lucky she didn't end up like Nick Stern. A british photojournalist that was also shot today with "non-lethal rounds".

“People came over to help and got me on the curb. A medic was called, who cut off my clothes. In my leg was what felt like a five centimeter hole with muscle hanging out of it and blood all down my leg. The medic put a tourniquet on it, and a journalist I was with took me to ER. It hurt so much that I thought they might be firing live rounds,” he said. “I’ve been with non lethal rounds before. They hurt like hell but generally don’t break the skin. But the blood made me think it was a live round.”

Dude had to go into emergency surgery.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 35 points 1 day ago (2 children)

*less-lethal. People can and do die from getting hit by rubber and clay bullets and beanbag rounds.

[–] VindictiveJudge@lemmy.world 11 points 23 hours ago

They're probably not ricocheting the rounds off the ground like they're supposed to. Again.

[–] Stamets@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Oh there's a reason I put "non-lethal" in quotes.

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

Bullets are also "non-lethal" if not shot at a person! Words are starting to become meaningless...

[–] WhatYouNeed@lemmy.world 9 points 21 hours ago

Cop trained how to handle journalists by the IDF.
