The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the Madleen’s crew is being taken to Israel after Israeli commandos seized the vessel in international waters. The Madleen ship, launched by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, was close to 100 miles [160km] from Gaza when it was stopped. The ship was carrying humanitarian aid to Palestinians starving because of Israel’s siege. Israel’s most recent total blockade began on March 2, and has only partially lifted under mounting international pressure.

Israel hijacks ship and kidnaps crew*.

Please fix title

[–] FreeWilliam@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's correct, but I'm using the Al Jazeera headline because that's where I got it from

Your link is to the image not the Aljazeera article. It is likely overwritten.

You're correct, the original link did get overwritten by the image https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2025/6/4/madleen-gaza-flotilla-live-greta-thunberg-activists-to-arrive-on-june-7?update=3763088 here is the link but it's important to note that you will probably scroll down a lot until you find the actual headline I'm reffering to because they are updating it very frequently.

Isn't it illegal to seize them in international waters?

[–] FreeWilliam@lemmy.ml 71 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yep, it is also illegal to commit genocide, ethnic cleansing, racism, and terrorism, but look where we are

I thought international waters was 100 mi off coast? (Meaning they waited for them to pass the line)

They were on international waters 100 miles [160km] from Gaza. It was carrying a symbolic amount of humanitarian aid, including baby formula and rice. They were completely peacefull, carrying no weapons whatsoever.

I hope Netenyahu gets what he deserves. Starving, in prison with no lights and constant explosive sounds would be a good start

While Netanyahu has been a shit stain on the world stage for the last +25 years, getting rid of him alone will not stop the violent zionist settler colonial project. It existed before he was born and will continue unless the root cause is fully understood.

[–] FreeWilliam@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 day ago

Totally agree with you! "Getting rid of him alone will not stop the violent zionist settler colonial project" is an amazing statement. I don't think it should just be fully understood, but also stopped through educating the masses on it's racist nationalism.

Neyanyahu and all of those who take glee in torturing the poor people in Gaza. There are so many to arrest. The governments that have stood aside and let this happen should be held accountable too. Israel has used up it's pity credits long ago, and they had everything in their favour. True colours shining now.

Stay safe from the fascist IOF, brave aid workers.

This world is imploding, and one day the Israeli war criminals will be brought to justice.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This is copium. Nobody's being brought to justice unless we force it to happen.

[–] FreeWilliam@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 day ago

I don't think demizerone meant that they will suddenly be brought to justice. I think he clearly meant that we will bring justice just in an indirect way.

[–] FreeWilliam@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago

Hopefully, one day all war criminals will be brought to justice.

They could have inspect the boat to make sure they weren't smuggling weapons and let it go, instead they seized it along with the crew because only the israel government has the authority to bring aid into gaza. This is 100% fascism.

[–] FreeWilliam@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They can't inspect the boat. They invaded them on international water. I would understand you're comment if they were pirated on Israeli territory, but no, they were on international waters 185km from Gaza when it was stopped.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I was about to say, legally this is an act of war. There's also some parliamentarian from the EU on there, so...

Israel is an invading country currently performing the biggest live-streamed genocide in recent history. They don't care about international law or what people in the rest of the world think. So their boarding or attack of the freedom flotilla does not care about reasonable use of force.

It's not the first time the flotilla is intercepted by Israeli forces. A few months ago a ship from freedom flotilla was sunk by Israeli drones, with some of the activists that are currently on board in the Madleen (such as Thiago Ávila). But it's the first time a high profile activist like Greta Thunberg is joining their initiative.
