During the Siege of Constantinople, the Ottoman Navy’s primary function was to prevent foreign ships from entering the Golden Horn. However, a small flotilla of Christian relief ships managed to run the blockade, causing great embarrassment to Mehmed II. He charged at the ocean screaming orders that were too far away to be heard, and began to drown as he was in full armor and could not swim until he was forcibly dragged out. In the aftermath, he ordered that the admiral be fired and given 100 lashes.
