Disney does not know where it wants to go or what it wants the movies to be. Blade seems like low hanging fruit, but what does an entire underworld of vampires mean for the rest of the MCU? Is it going to come up in Armor Wars? Will Kate Bishop start shooting stakes at fangers? The Wesley Snipes movies had him cut through hundreds of vampires in a nightclub where they had abducted hundreds of victims that they were bleeding for the sprinklers. Shield never ran across some weird bodies drained of blood through the neck?

The problem is Blade, like Deadpool, can only be done properly in an R rated film.

They don't want to give the IP justice and want to pg-13 wash it because they think they will make more money. Deadpool proved that R ratings can take in cash if they let a passionate team and cast go and do what they want.

They don't even need to integrate vampires into the main MCU. Blade gets a movie. Blade 2 has Blade working with Deadpool in a gloriously gory blood fest with Blade playing straight man to Deadpool's fool and probably trying to kill him just to shut him up a few times. That way they keep the R rated films separate and build the dark MCU Earth-10005(Deadpool and Wolverine's new universe) while acknowledging that they are in the same multiverse but are in a separate universe from MCU Earth-616.

Well how did they deal with it in the comics? How did they deal with the whole mutant thing with the x men and the other Mcu shit in the comics?

Original 'Blade' fans are also 'baffled' by delay in Marvel's movie reboot.

They have had several different scripts for this already including one that had Blade as a Splinter style mentor to a wacky cast of late teenagers. It's worth tracking down the summaries of the different scripts as some of them are just nuts.

They very much want to pitch this at as many quadrants as possible with a low a rating as possible and don't give a shit about the source material.

Most likely it was approved as part of the Phase 5 directionless phase, and they don't see how it fits in with the Phase 6 Doom phase.
