If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

An owl with teeth?

This shot is a little creepy, although I love the perch this Barred owl was on. No, he didn't grow a set of teeth. Those are the feet of a good size mole that this owl ended up swallowing in just a matter of seconds after he tore into it just a bit

Didn't expect it to be a mole's butt and it's dangling feeties.

If we were the size of a mole, this could be one of us.

I always assume this is why we can find the owls and other predators significantly smaller than ourselves to be beautiful, but say, a shark is going to be a tougher sell as it can still give us a really bad day.

What about bears? They're shaped like friends!

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The bears look truly amazing to cuddle, but there's probably also some risk involved.

We've had some snacking on a few of our trail cameras the last 2 years.

If you woke up and found momma bear decided to sleep beside your bed, would your first reaction be joy? 😁

Squeeee! Li’l untouchables!

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

They are very adorbs. The one year my brother was sitting out at the base of a tree and had a momma and cubs come strolling by a few yards from him. I don't know if he's ever tried so hard to become a tree himself! He found it a very special encounter, but not until he was well away from them. 😂

The idea of running from an owl that wants to eat you can be horrifying, if the owl is big enough.

They would already be a problem, if they were the same size as humans.

The owl is, let's say, 10 times bigger than the mole.

From the relative proportions, it's like being eaten by lil Owlzilla.

The Cuban Giant Owl was 1m/4ft tall and 10-13kg/20-30lbs and would probably have put out ancestors on edge.

10x that size feels like it could end the world!

Its very possible to like sharks, even very oversized ones (i mean blahaj)

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Oh, blahaj is totally adorable and squeezable!

I know I would also like to hold and cuddle real sharks, but am aware it often isn't the best idea.

The thing about sharks is it’s a lot harder to run away from them

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

They do tend to have the mobility advantage in the water. 🦈

I always thought it would be really cool to dive with sharks of a decent size. Purposefully at least, not by a surprise encounter.

I do have a photo of me giving a kiss on the snout to a small shark I caught fishing one night. I like unusual animals, what can I say?

Hey, I never noticed that mole!

gulp It's not permanent, don't worry

Ah yes, an owl vampire in the wild

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

They are all technically "out for blood" like vampires, but they also snack on the rest of the body while they're at it!

That is a pretty good monster name. I hadn't heard of that before.

I have no background with roleplaying, and I was reading that article you posted and I tried looking for the show. I saw all the thumbnails of people sitting around as was very confused, as all the character images on the sidebar were all drawn, so I kept thinking I was looking at the wrong thing.

I ended up clicking on the video and scrolling through the progress bar and it looks to be them being filmed doing a roleplay game. That seemed like a very interesting way of doing a show that I had never seen before. I'll have to give it a better look later. Saw there was a webtoon as well, which explains the drawn depictions of the characters a bit better than what I was seeing in the Youtube thumnails.

Ohmy. 🤩✨

Fantasy High is one of my all-time favorite series!

I had never quite clicked with the whole "actual play" genre before discovering it on Dropout.tv, so there's that.

Do yourself a favor and start at the beginning, though — and avoid all spoilers! After the one above, of course. 😅
