Sure, use spellcasting in a world where even knowing about anything eldritch makes you insane. Low intelligence builds live longer.

Can't go mad from having an existential crisis if you're too dumb to have one in the first place.

Taps at head

Absolutely. For anyone not familiar, one of the mechanics in call of cthulu is an intelligence roll that if you fail, you're good, but if you succeed on the roll... Well then your mind correlates all its contents and you go mad

Going mad is part of the fun though

Yeah, I don't see the draw in that kind of setting. Not really my cup of tea.

Me neither, this is just a one-shot for halloween. But this kind of you-are-a-piece-of-shit-and-cannot-do-anything-to-survive isn't something I'd do for weeks on end.

I actually try to go insane or die before the end of the one-shot usually. Not this one thought, because a soul is in jeopardy this time.

We have nothing else. No weapons, no guns, nothing. It's do or die.

Hence the meme indeed

See, that's the secret. It isn't if you go insane and get devoured by a deep one, it's when.

[–] Neato@kbin.social 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There is no winning Call of Cthulhu. You usually go insane. Dying is actually the best move.

I thought I'd make it to round 3 maybe before it happens.

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Pfft, if you even finish the first round, that's a win lol

[–] sammytheman666@ttrpg.network 3 points 1 year ago

Of the combat of the one shot ?

Probsbly yeah.

[–] LoamImprovement@ttrpg.network 15 points 1 year ago

To be fair, dying is probably one of the best ways to resolve a character in CoC.

[–] Dumnorix@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

CoC players should remember combat and spellcasting should be avoided at all costs. Your characters don't know what these spells really do and are too fragile, just like we are, for any heroic D&D action.

[–] LoamImprovement@ttrpg.network 9 points 1 year ago

But, if you must get into combat, shotguns and dynamite are your friends.

[–] Stonewyvvern@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

You don't win CoC...best you can hope for is to lose less.

I wonder if this meme man is still alive
