The onomonopia I hear is PONK

[–] JimVanDeventer@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Pthonk: n, the sound made by a unique combination of a nosebleed and shame. Often heard in rapid succession.

I struggled for a while trying to think how to type it. Donk was my first one to go to but it didn't evoke that hollow part of the noise when it hits you

A trackpoint to sit on. Lovely Thinkpad merch!

[–] Maven@lemmy.sdf.org 8 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I got a refurb Thinkpad T495s at a business sale, and I was astonished to realize they still have the nipple mouse

[–] blackris@feddit.de 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean, it is pretty fun to play with the uhm … nipple … mouse.

CLIT MOUSE LOL

[–] itslilith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

even the new ones still have it! I honestly couldn't imagine buying a laptop without a nipple mouse

[–] pewgar_seemsimandroid@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

there are a few non ThinkPad laptops with a mouse button or as you call it a nipple mouse

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

And 3 mouse buttons! Perfect for X11.

I absolutely love the nipple. I wish more keyboards had it. I have a decent mouse, however if I had a reasonably priced mechanical keyboard with a nipple it would be brilliant.

It reminds me of a game called "Völkerball" we have here in Germany. I suppose that is our equivalent to dodge ball, which I think this is in reference to.

I need to fresh up some memories here. Have you played it only after sports classes "just for fun" and have you played it with a so called "medicine ball" which made like this sound when hitting someone on the tighs or stomach: "PHHTHUMPBUMP" where the last BUMP is from the echo the impact made through the sports hall? All I know is I hated it the same as being a keeper in handball.

I'd say that if it was a bullet...

They're for dodgeball, so that's basically what they are. We play dodgeball to prepare us for the rest of the day dodging bullets.

Thats the correct onomatopoeia!

[–] amansman@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Thonk" was more like what the foam ones did. These were more of a "Poinnng" with hard attack on the P.

[–] cuchilloc@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

To my ears they go kinda peemph

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 year ago

I'd write thampf

[–] Jerb322@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago

When it hit you in the face, it's more of a "ping"...

[–] Dasnap@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I only know the noise of one bouncing off a small kid's face.

And that small kid was me.

[–] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago
[–] FrostyCaveman@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

haha shit that brings back memories

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 3 points 1 year ago

There is no way I can accurately convey the sound these balls make in text or even vocally. It's that unique.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago

It's a ball... Is this something American again?

[–] ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago
