The highlights posted have always been very enjoyable, coupled with score posts and any big news articles, helps me stay on top of the world game, outside of my EPL bubble I find myself in.

Agreed! BT Sport used to do an amazing European Football show but sadly they cancelled it. The Athletic podcast have a good European episode every week too. Maybe some discussion on those would be good.

Hi! I'm content with as many photographs of Phil Jones as you can supply, anything beyond that is just gravy.

Soccer is the biggest sport on the world by far, we've surely got enough fans on Lemmy to make this community more active. Just have to start getting in the habit of coming here and leaving a few comments and upvotes once or twice a week and it should grow organically. It's been a painful season (decade tbh) as a Man Utd fan, so I can't say I've been keeping up with the footballing world as much as I used to, but I'll try to do my part as well.

Daily Phil Jones thread, got it.

Yeah agreed, also a United fan slowly losing patience with football being a miserable experience but I still enjoy seeing bangers and tactical stuff posted. Thanks!

Match threads for biggest game of the day that gets pinned

[-] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

This - or, when there's multiple games, a single pinned thread with handoff links to any match threads there are.

Oh, and hi /u/ReadyUser31 thanks for taking on mod duties!

[-] NoRamyunForYou@lemmy.nz 7 points 10 months ago

The NBA Subreddit has a daily Match Thread with Parent comments to each game on that day.

I believe it was done that way because we just don't have the traffic on Lemmy at the moment to support separate game threads.

Which I guess is basically what happens here, but with the added "pre-populated" parent comments for each game.

[-] sanguinepar@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Ah yeah, that'd make sense.

Hi, great effort. Wish you and us all the best to make it fly. I always enjoyed footage off the regular path like tactical analysis, in-depth interviews, practice footage, behind the scenes etc. You get the idea I guess. Plus, I haven't seen the tag [Great Goal] in a long time. Always up for great goals from all over the world, no matter what league and level.

Let me know if I need to go into detail on some of the things i mentioned anytime

[-] ReadyUser31@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Love that stuff! This works best if we're all posting that sort of content but that's exactly what I want to see here too.

[-] hallenbeck@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Agreed! Interesting content, in-depth analysis, great goals, highlights from extraordinary or notable matches. 👍

I've found some content I've posted along these lines gets downvoted (e.g. https://lemmy.world/post/8042698) for no given reason, which is always a bit dispiriting. In that example, it's always good fun to get an insight into how top coaches think, even if you don't support that team. Sky's Monday Night Football great for that - Gary O'Neil and Thomas Franck being notable examples recently:

Hello!

Would be great if highlights and goals could be kept in a single matchweek thread or similarly organised somehow. They often crowd out and rapidly push down other content making it hard to see. I've sometimes logged in to find a wall of scores and match updates for stuff I'm not interested in (e.g. the wall of Copenhagen v Manchester United goals recently - would those not be better served up in a single thread rather than a post per goal?). Highlights are fine, but I can usually find extended highlights pretty easily on the many highlight websites out there (including YouTube). Posting scores here seems a bit redundant too - there are so many apps and websites now that provide live scores and in-depth stats.

But I appreciate these things might be useful to others so just appealing for perhaps a bit more organisation around them.

Hi! Glad to see someone take the reigns. 🙂

[-] ArianaGrande@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Hello! Thanks to everyone contributing. I personally am looking for highlights and match threads. And anything Eric Cantona related.

Hi @ReadyUser31@lemmy.world ! Would it be possible to add the NWSL community to the sidebar? Here's the link: !nwsl@lemmy.world (by url: https://lemmy.world/c/nwsl ).

[-] CommunityLinkFixer@lemmings.world 1 points 8 months ago

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !nwsl@lemmy.world
