Incomprehensibly depressing. Everything about this should make us ashamed of ourselves as a species. Or we should just stop pretending that we value each other more than cash. Or at all actually.
Everything about this should make us ashamed of ourselves as a ~~species~~ country
Don't rope the rest of humanity into this. Most of the rest of us have got it figured out.
Then why do the most of us let something like this happen. And while some countries have better healthcare there is still an enormous amount of suffering everywhere be it starvation, war, homelessness you name it. We have the means to be better but we don't do it.
still almost all cause by that same country we all know very well.
Oh gee, why didn't I think about voting for change?
It's so obvious now that you put it that way
I'm sorry, but we as a country can't vote our way out of a paper bag. We're too caught up in division politics and general propaganda to make any leeway
How do the economics work if one dollar can erase one hundred dollars of debt? Somehow profit is still made?
You can buy medical debt at a fraction of the face value. That's how these predatory debt collection companies make money.
What's stopping people buying of their own debt? And why is money still being made?
You buy it in bundles. John Oliver did a segment if you want more information on the practice.
Constantly feels like we're losing the best of us. I can't imagine facing death and thinking, "How can I make a bunch of other people's lives easier?"
AP is really nosediving. Malware ads and no cursory explanation of purchasing medical debt.
Democrats are just as committed to this for-profit driven healthcare system as Republicans are. They're just a little bit more polite about it.
Not really. There is at least a decent portion of Democrats in office that would love to at the very least offer a public option for health insurance. Unfortunately there are more than enough Democrats in office against the idea combined with all of the Republicans to block any sort of attempt at that or Medicare for All.
There were more than enough Democrats in Congress in 2008 to make that happen.
There are more than enough Democrats now to make it enough of an issue that it becomes part of the public conversation.
There are more than enough Democrats now that could make an internal party rule that prohibits Democrats from ever lobbying for pharmaceutical or insurance companies.
However, the Democratic Party is far more motivated to kneecap actual healthcare reforms than actually implement what they say they believe in.
