"I've heard some rumors about it," he tells us of a potential follow-up. "But I don't know anything yet. But I feel pretty confident that it may happen." When we ask if he'd be happy to return, Pine responds: "Absolutely."

I really hope so. The movie was surprisingly good and the magic was very interesting

I liked that it was silly and fun. That's okay and something like Dungeons and Dragons is perfect for it. That also reminds me I need to finish watching it.

It was silly and fun, but also had a lot of suttle ingame jokes. Like the DM self-insert

[-] detalferous@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

I missed that completely. When did it happen?

[-] Chetzemoka@startrek.website 4 points 10 months ago

Xenk the Paladin can hear everything the PCs are saying because he's a DMPC lol. It's pretty subtle, they did a great job with the writing. Go back and watch it again keeping in mind that the DM is playing Xenk

[-] detalferous@lemm.ee 4 points 10 months ago

Wow; that is subtle! Are there any other tells?

This seems like something that could only be understood after it's pointed out by the writers. Still brilliant! But really really subtle.

I mean, Xenk is perfect, knows exactly what the PCs need to know to advance the story, leads them to the correct location, and wins the fight by himself, then walks away lol

Really, go watch it again and it's so obvious you won't believe you didn't catch it first time. (I didn't either)

Yes, please. I hope they have the same cast return. That movie was great.

They should play different player characters from last time. This is a different campaign after all.

The marketing was so bad for it. Commercials didn't do it justice and they had these huge cardboard printouts of the cast in theaters where it all looked like cheap props. I don't know where the disconnect was, but I remember my buddy commenting how cheap it looked. He's a Baldurs Gate player from way back, but he dismissed it right there with what looked like a cheap bald cap.

Turned out to be a wonderful escape.

I'd be up for it but it didn't do great at the box office, so we'll see.

[-] ashok36@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago

I'm willing to bet it did very good on streaming though. The success of BG3 also can't be ignored.

HAT laid a good groundwork. The writers and director are passionate about the IP and there's an established base of support. I honestly think they'd be crazy to let the opportunity pass.

I wonder what the impact of the boycott was. Bad timing for the movie studio that the IP had that OGL debacle just prior to release

What marketing genius put this in the run next to the Mario movie

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 months ago

What a shame that is! This was the best movie of the entire year. People spend a billion dollars to see the 20th marvel movie, but don't go see this masterpiece? WHY?

[-] avater@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

Please, the movie was awesome!

[-] qarbone@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

I think it should be a different party and a different campaign.

This was probably the best movie I saw all year, or in the last several years. Intriguing, fun, campy, hilarious, exciting... I have so many positive things to say about it. I've even recommended it to several people who know nothing about fantasy or D&D. If ever there's a good introduction, it's this movie. They did such an amazing job, while being completely true to the table top rpg.
