Sony, with the 5 V, will probably target the iPhone 14, which is more popular than the 14 Pro, and compete with the Pixel 8 and the Zenfone 10, and leave the 1V as the full featured flagship like the 14 Pro Max, Pixel 8 Pro, S23 Ultra...

Small consolation price : 5 V may be cheaper than 5 IV

If it's around the $800 price. I think it's justifiable.

very strange downgrading to two cameras, better come with a serious price cut if it wants to compete... love my 1 v but the 5 series usually hasn't been a big downgrade

it does seem especially weird because the 10 V is even lower tier but has 3 cameras. Although the other 2 cameras are pathetic little 8MP 1/4" things.

So much complaining about cutting it to 2 cameras, but honestly the only camera I care about is the 1/1.35" Exmor T sensor. As long as they have that, I don't really care about the second camera. If they're moving downmarket and this comes with a price cut, i'll be even happier.

Although I would prefer the 2nd one to be the telephoto, not ultrawide. I usually use Panorama mode and snap a pic as wide as i want.

If they do add back to telephoto. I wanted to be a Periscope one.

[-] weew@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

zero chance of that. Periscope zooms take both the most money and physical space.

Still on my Galaxy S9 for now, but I'll be watching for the release of this one. I flatly refuse to buy any phone that does not have a 3.5mm jack, and so far it seems Sony and Asus are the only two players left in that space.
