Hi all! I frequently see irrelevant garbage posts being published on these so-called tech news sources, frustrating you and me alike.

This morning, I've updated the bot to support loading a list of blocked phrases from its config. As of writing this, the block list currently contains:

"blockedPhrases": [
	"couches",
	"vegan",
	"diet",
	"progressives",
	"save $",
	"astrology",
	"disney plus",
	"hulu",
	"apple deals",
	"prime day",
	"linoleic acid",
	"freedom caucus",
	"mental health",
	"laptop deals",
	"smart gadget",
	"and your money",
	"folding phones",
	"chatgpt"
]

If there are common phrases that are usually used in blog spam, but not in real tech news, feel free to let me know and I can update the config when I have a few minutes to SSH in and tweak it.

This is just a link farm with zero interaction. Why does it even exist?

[–] andrew@radiation.party 3 points 1 year ago

It’s links to articles aggregated from various tech news sources.

It exists to help provide me with content to read relevant to my interests, which many others also share.

why are foldables on the list? i get the rest but are they not also tech news?

[–] andrew@radiation.party 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They totally are, but the vast majority of articles I see talking about them are blogspam or garbage, and that’s what I want to kick out.

That and foldable phones are not very interesting to read about right now, they’re all mostly the same tech that has a limited lifespan.

Could you use ChatGPT to assess the relevance of each article before posting?
