We should make our own server

[-] itslilith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 10 months ago

And so the cycle continues

[-] neidu@feddit.nl 5 points 10 months ago

Let's be awkward together. Sure, why not.

[-] drew_belloc@programming.dev 2 points 10 months ago

With blackjack and hookers

[-] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

Could try revolt.chat. I would like to say element, but that has no chat

[-] Marighost@lemm.ee 18 points 10 months ago

I get intimidated by the fact that usually these folks have established communities with regular known chatters with in jokes and whatnot and now some new weirdo is trying to come in

[-] SimplyATable@lemmy.fmhy.net 3 points 10 months ago

That's why I'm so proud of the community I made on my server. I've heard from a lot of people that they just sorta.. immediately felt included despite there being almost 200 people. I've also had people tell me that they don't really feel like I'm some figure they need to watch out for, unlike a lot of server owners. It's a nice thing to hear

this is a personal attack

Same. It doesn't help that I don't like discord.

[-] swizzle9144@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 10 months ago

I'm in this picture and I don't like it 😔

[-] Asnabel@lemm.ee 7 points 10 months ago

I have never related so much to an image.

[-] talizorah@kbin.social 5 points 10 months ago

4 servers and counting... I feel you ):

[-] ZILtoid1991@kbin.social 5 points 10 months ago

I'm in at least a dozen of them, sometimes I start to talk with people there, but usually I don't. I need to be somehow reintroduced to online socialization, as after all my old circles either massively transformed or fell apart due to tankie infiltration, I even forgot that, and I'm quite autistic to begin with.

[-] talizorah@kbin.social 2 points 10 months ago

Back when I was into forums, being active and contributing usually turned into being accepted in the community. With these Discord's, I've been ignored and overlooked every time.

Being on the spectrum doesn't help... It's like you have to learn how to communicate all over again.

[-] doctorcrimson@lemmy.today 4 points 10 months ago

Or when you actively engage in conversations and other people on the server do not.

[-] Crow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 10 months ago

Try playing some tf2 and chat with the others, and maybe someone will send you a friends request if you have a good vibe. Worked for me, actually met my bf of 3 years like that

[-] odelik@lemmy.today 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I love to go into these situations and soon as there's an opening, greet everybody with, "Howdy, howdy!" in a big and friendly tone.

It is a great ice breaker. And I'm glad my grandmother taught me this when she recognized how shy/awkward I am.

Hope it's as useful to you as it is to me.

[-] 2kool4idkwhat@lemdro.id 2 points 10 months ago

Relatable... I've been in this situation for a long time

I'd suggest to try joining conversations regardless. I know it's easier said than done, but I think it's still worth at least trying. I've been in a server and I've said something every now and then... then a bit more often... eventually I did take part in a conversation... after a while again... and again... all of this took months and I still struggle with anxiety but along the way I made a few friends in that server. And I too didn't think I would be able to actually do it

There’s a top comment here being kind and welcoming but I’m concerned about overburdening the person with responses after many other people have answered.

Similarly, it’s difficult in discord servers to provide some comment of substance (sometimes a find a right moment, post, and disappear for months lol), and talking without substance feels weird.

Hi! What's your favorite videogame?

Do you have any subject you're super interested in and could talk about for 2 hours with no prep?

What are your thoughts on the Fediverse? What are your hobbies?

(Answer as many or as few of those as you want but pls pick at least one :3)

[-] BautAufWasEuchAufbaut@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

I hope this isn't off topic, but I really like the fediverse I think. I don't like the fact there's no real "like button"? I assume this is something people appreciate about it, but I just want to show my appreciation/support/interest in a toot. I don't want somebody to feel like they're calling into the void.
Commenting despite having nothing to say doesn't feel comfortable to me.

[-] UraniumBlazer@lemm.ee 0 points 10 months ago

Well u do kinda have the upvote functionality, no? I'll be honest.... Seeing upvotes on some weird ass shitpost comment that I made does make me feel a little giddy inside hehe. So like.... If u want to show appreciation, the upvote does work for me at least!

I was referring to Mastodon, didn't even think about Lemmy 😅

Hi! What's your favorite videogame?

Fallout New Vegas, followed by GTA V. I really liked Baldur's Gate 3 so far, but I'm probably going to play a lot more sporadically during the semester.

Do you have any subject you're super interested in and could talk about for 2 hours with no prep?

Audio engineering, music, control theory, and math, specifically linear systems, integral transforms, and calculus in general.

What are your thoughts on the Fediverse?

We got a good thing going here. I'm a bit concerned about the Meta federation stuff, more so for microblogging services than the threadiverse, but I think we'll tank it. I really hope that Peertube takes off.

What are your hobbies?

Guitar, audio mixing, audio programming 💀, video games, watching gaming videos, engaging with people on Lemmy, cooking, and reading math and physics textbooks.

Yeah I'm into weird shit, but not the fun kind of weird.

[-] tonarinokanasan@ani.social 1 points 10 months ago

Everything is fun to someone! It's mathematically infeasible that you could be the only one in the world with any particular interest!

Though, yeah, finding other people with the same interest is definitely easier if you're into things that are clearly mainstream.

Have you tried to Viossa server? They're very nice
