I've noticed that there's generally good coverage of big-name games, and while that's cool and all, there are still a ton of lesser-known games trapped exclusively on platforms like Steam. Anyone know what sites are more likely to have them?

There is the r/piracy Mega Thread

And also the awesome-piracy github repo

If you can't find a site there to download the things you want to you might be out of luck

I had poked all over the megathread, but didn't know about the github repo. Thanks.

But yeah, you're right about it being a matter of luck sometimes.

The archive.org has a surprising number of ROMS for old games, not to mention all the DRM cracked games that shuffle through as well.

Ooh, I hadn't considered checking archive.org. Seems useful, albeit very random.

You would be shocked at the stuff on there. Norm Macdonald Live was removed from YT (can't remember why) but it's all on archive.org to watch or download, even as a torrent.

Just here to add that depending on how obscure the game is, it could be found on My Abandonware - I'm unsure of the rules here about links and such but it's easy enough to find and I've never had issues with it.

Rule 3 says not to link, but yeah My Abandonware is great

Thanks! I'm still getting used to navigating Lemmy and using different apps.

It says we can link to top-level domains, just not specific titles. So you're probably fine anyway. (But I am not a mod.)

Oh huh, that's an odd rule
