Remember when Jellico commanded the Dauntless to fire a torpedo into the Neutral Zone because he didn't want to upset the Romulans during sensitive negotiations by simply having the ship go in itself?

Jellico might not be a badmiral but he's certainly a bad-at-his-jobmiral, and he was a crap-at-his-jobtain as well.

Certainly made some questionable choices in the name of potential peace with the Romulans. Wouldn't say any of it was with malice, but he could have played it smarter.

Alternate future Admiral Janeway doesn't qualify.

Prime timeline Admiral Janeway might qualify if only because we never see her do anything.

On Prodigy, she sees the young crew for their potential and helps them move forward. Never would I count alt Janeway. Her taking out a large portion of Borg with a virus is pretty badass, though.

Here's the thing...we've seen that the time cops will show up and set things "right" whenever it suits them. No one stepped in to stop Admiral Janeway. Having her take out the Borg was intentional. I'd say that means she counts.

By her actions, perhaps. Her demeanor and attitude, at least early in the finale, show her callousness and disregard borne of what she perceived as failure to bring everyone (mostly Seven) home. She had forgotten the family she built through their shared hardship. Prime Janeway had the advantage of seeing what she could become and took actions that would go on to make her not qualify as a "badmiral."

edit: Also, the time "boyscouts" are an ineffectual and useless branch. Had we gotten a more fleshed out Temporal ~~Civil~~ Cold War, I might say otherwise.

In Strange New Worlds when the time cop tells La’an that she can’t talk with anyone about what happened and then just pisses off back to the future. Surely the fact she’s now incredibly traumatised, with no potential for therapy in her timeline, could have a hugely damaging effect? As an agency, it’s their job to fix the timeline, so surely they have psychologists for things like this right? Or are they telling her that her future is that inconsequential to the timeline that it doesn’t matter? Because that’s pretty messed up. She picked up the pieces when your man screwed up, schedule her some damn time therapy!

Sorry for the rant, I just watched this ep for the first time a couple weeks back and I’m still fuming over that smug prick of a time cop 😤

pretty sure admiral Janeway gives Captain Picard orders to Romulus in Insurrection, and that sounds as something dammit.

[-] EmergMemeHologram@startrek.website 5 points 8 months ago

Wait, isn’t alternate timeline Janeway the prime timeline Janeway, and only after temporal interference do we get the final Janeway?

[-] ummthatguy@startrek.website 5 points 8 months ago

Eh, it's wibbly-wobbly, timey-whimey. Best not to think about it too much.

Wait Wait Wait, where is sisko/Kira in all this?

Kira pushed a four shift rotation to Sisko while he was delirious with a massive head injury. Later he suggested the idea as well and Kira was so happy he wasn't dead/ agreed that she just took joy in agreeing with his "suggestion"

That was a clear callback to jellico in my opinion.

[-] ummthatguy@startrek.website 11 points 8 months ago

Good catch. However, Colonel Kira is only Federation adjacent and Sisko joined the Prophets as a captain. Admirals club only, and since this particular meme takes place late 24th Century, Admiral Picard had already "retired."

Janeway got her genocide and murdering done when she was a captain I guess.

Don't forget when she tortured Tom Paris by giving him 30 days of solitary confinement, no reading material or anything to stimulate him, and gave him purposefully bland food the entire time.

That was already considered a breach of human rights in our unenlightened 20th century, but Janeway saw it as a fitting punishment for... checks notes... saving an entire species of sentient alien life, albeit ones whose ruler decided that they didn't want to be saved.

Admirals Cornwell and Vance, are we nothing to you?
