Obviously everyone should have safe exit plans, a go-bag etc. Civil strife and natural disasters are both fed by climate change, so we'll see more of each this century.

That said, I'm very skeptical of any 'civil war' type situation because the military is still firmly in hand.

Isolated yall qaeda cells declaring a civil war from a bunker in idaho does not a civil war make.

I agree. I think it's more likely that we'll see sporadic acts of political violence over the next few decades. Those could lead to an eventual civil war, but it's wayyy too early to call right now.

I’m smack dab in the middle of Texas. My plan is to keep my head down.

I do?! Since when?

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 13 points 8 months ago

I don't think so as people have been saying that the war is coming for 10-20 years.

I've been to Sam's club on a Sunday after church, meal team six ain't gonna do shit. I'm so sick of hearing this dumb fucking idea that somehow these fastfood patriots are going to do anything except continue to scream at clouds and die of fox news induced aneurysm. Sick of living in this dumb fucking bizaro country where trump is the second coming of christ and school shootings can't be stopped! Jesus God damn toe sucking Christ. Is the soda rotting brains? Do micro plastics cause fuckwit syndrome? SOMEONE ANSWER GOD DAMNIT.

Recent discoveries in indicate that lead poisoning is way more prevelant than previously thought. Intellectual disabilities are one of the symptoms.

When you believe in nothing, anything can be real

[-] TIMMAY@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Im sorry, friend. Im feeling a lot of the same frustrations, and I dont have any good solutions. We're in this shit together, at least.

Meh. If it didn’t start after Jan 6 and Trump’s first term (when he had the seemingly best chance to do it), I’m not so sure it would start now (if he loses again).

If he wins, we’re headed down the path of a dictatorship and maybe we have something happen then, but him losing is just gonna be a bunch of MAGAts whining some more.

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 3 points 8 months ago

Honestly you are probably right. (Assuming the news doesn't invent something)

[-] paddirn@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

That’s not to say we’re not on the precipice of fascism. That he even has a decent chance of winning the presidency again after that shit show of a first term shows how unbelievably stupid a good portion of Americans are, but they’re also goddamn cowards who won’t do shit if Trump loses, other than piss and whine. “Violence” if he loses is going to be a tantrum.

USA, just be so kind and close your nuclear arsenal far away first. Yours sincerely, the rest of the world.

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 0 points 8 months ago

We might as well use it to wipe out the middle east, Asia, Europe and Australia. I think Africa can likely be saved.

[-] RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

I am honestly surprised one hasn't happened within the last 10 years already.

[-] Zorque@kbin.social 10 points 8 months ago

That's because people are far too invested in their own comforts. 1/6 was an outlier because they were under the mistaken impression that Trump would lift even a single finger to protect them, which has not played out at all.

We might see a similar event after the 2024 election if Trump doesn't win again, but not on any kind of national scale.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago

because they were under the mistaken impression that Trump would lift even a single finger to protect them

Which really goes to show how far from reality their perception of trump really is

[-] gac11@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

Didn't he just promise to free all of his imprisoned idiots? I'm sure he'll get right on that

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

There are only two things left that trump could do that would actually surprise me, which is impressive considering how often I was shocked by his actions in the beginning. Those two things are "tell the truth", and "do the right thing". If he ever does either of those things my mind will explode.

[-] AlwaysNowNeverNotMe@kbin.social 1 points 8 months ago

Just after infrastructure week.

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 4 points 8 months ago

I was until I though about how much work that would be. I think people would much rather yell at there television.

Well, we have 11 months prep-time for this one, so we should use it wisely

  1. Get a passport if you don't have one already

  2. Get in shape -- you are either going to be running or engaging in combat so be sure you're physically fit enough to do it

  3. Get a gun if you don't have one and learn how to use it properly

  4. Build an emergency fund -- even if it's just a couple hundred dollars, that's enough for a bus ticket to a safe state or out of the country entirely

  5. Have an exit plan with your loved ones and make sure you have somewhere to go

[-] RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world 28 points 8 months ago

I can't tell if this is a meme or if you're being serious.

[-] Sheeple@lemmy.world 12 points 8 months ago

Tbh all of these are reasonable even if there is no threat of collapse like that kind of stuff is just basic shit you do in your life

[-] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee 6 points 8 months ago

The chances of there being wide scale unrest after the election are pretty high actually. I think they have a point.

[-] Zorque@kbin.social 3 points 8 months ago

If by wide scale unrest you mean people bitching on twitter and facebook, sure.

They'll probably put more Infowars stickers on their work coolers as well, that'll show 'em.

[-] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee 6 points 8 months ago

They stormed the Capitol last time they lost, are you actually that naieve?

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 4 points 8 months ago

Honesty your time is better spent doing other things. You are way more likely to die in a car than you are from the collapse of society.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

I already moved to the mountains. I'll just keep truckin along like I already do. Ain't nobody coming up here.

[-] TIMMAY@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

I have vague fantasies of navigating a post-war wasteland fallout 3 style so at this point fuck it I say bring it on. Of course ill probably die within the first few months of all-out war but hey I can dream
