lemmy was "spammed" with comments about sync for lemmy.

Thunder works on my graphenos pixel without problems. No bugs, nothing. It works as intended. I can write and edit posts. It looks very polished. It's beautiful, it's material you.

I don't get why people "freak out" about sync. I could freak about thunder! Thank you for writing the app!

As a current Thunder and previous Syncfor Reddit user, I can understand Sync's charm.

It's a lot polished, the most polished Lemmy client right now. There's absolutely no lag with weird config (e.g. link preview for Thunder), hell lot of customisation, ability to backup and restore settings, ability to parse virtually any links within Sync and even provide download option, etc.

Sunc benefits from using same old codebase with backend tweaking to Lemmy.

Thunder will ultimately catch up to that, but saying Thunder is current state is perfect and matches up with Sync in features is big hyperbole.

matches up with Sync in features is big hyperbole

Where did OP say that? They very clearly state that their needs for a client are pretty basic.

[-] nonearther@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

If we're being pedantic, then OP didn't even mention that their needs are basic. They only mentioned they can write and post, which doesn't say much.

But they did mention that it's polished with no bugs, which is not true. They talked about the material You design which again is basic in Thunder and exhaustive in Sync.

And finally they mentioned Thunder being perfect which it isn't and it's improving by every release.

Clearly with direct comparison, it lags against Sync in every department and only that's what I mentioned in my post.

I can't believe I read all that thinking you might actually tell me where OP said, or even implied, that Thunder

matches up with Sync in features

I agree. Thunder is my favorite lemmy app. The devs have put a lot of work into making it accessible so i can use it and i just hope they aren't tired of me reporting accessibility bugs.

I'll chime in on this topic since it's been getting a bit of activity. First, thank you for trying out Thunder! I appreciate all the amazing and supportive comments and it's been nice hearing them from the community. I would like to remind everyone to be civil and respectful for other lemmy clients. They're all being developed by people who have a genuine interest in lemmy as a platform and I'm sure they all want lemmy to be successful.

I personally think that Thunder still has a long way to go before I would consider it perfect. It's only been roughly a bit over a month since Thunder was first developed, and although there has been incredible progress so far, there are definitely a lot of features and bugs to work out! There are still UX gaps to fill in, missing features that have yet to be added in, and so on (that we can learn from all the other lemmy clients out there ๐Ÿ˜…).

At the end of the day, Thunder is a community-driven FOSS project, and will stay that way. All the work that is being put into Thunder are from individuals who take time out of their day to contribute towards the project. It might not currently have the same level as polish as other apps, but it will get there eventually with time.

I wish we could just stop complaining about lemmy clients as a whole and appreciate them all for helping us migrate from reddit easily.

[-] Brimstonks@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Thunder sounds cool! I always used Sync for Reddit and found it very comfortable and I loved the features so I was very happy to see that same comfort used for Lemmy too.

Ain't nothing wrong with liking Thunder better if that's what you prefer, Sync just earned a lot of fans over it's long existence

I never saw what the fuss was with Sync for Reddit, but everyone is acting like fanboys about it launching for Lemmy. ๐Ÿ˜‚

[-] kratoz29@lemmy.fmhy.net 8 points 1 year ago

Fanboys? And what about Thunder fanboys? /s

For real, let's just let people enjoy what they want.

I was constantly using Connect, Voyager, Thunder and Summit for Lemmy.

Now that Sync for Lemmy is here I am gonna be using it a lot, it is too unstable right now, but all Lemmy clients were once, and when Voyager app makes it to the PlayStore heck I'll be rocking that one too.

We can use whatever we want, if users want to pay for Sync for Lemmy nothing is wrong about it, you are not being forced to use it too, nor pay for anything.

I don't even remember anyone talking about sync on Reddit. Everyone always mentioned rif, Apollo, or baconreader.

[-] Jackthelad@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I know it was one of the most popular, but it was always Relay for me.

Hence why I like Thunder so much.

[-] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

I'm trying out thunder as I type this. It's pretty slick. Not a huge fan of needing to swipe to upvotes and reply, but other than that it seems really good

[-] danielton@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

You can turn on vote and reply buttons in the latest beta of Thunder.

[-] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Cool, thanks for the heads up!

Not a huge fan of needing to swipe to upvotes and reply, [...]

It's a acquired taste for sure. But now I really like it. Keeps the UI clean.

[-] WarmSoda@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

I'm digging it. It's quick. It seems to handle the inbox the best so far. There's some really nice graphic accents that are subtle I enjoy too.

[-] Jackthelad@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

You can choose to use buttons in the settings menu.

[-] oselecto@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah I was a Relay user too and Thunder is definitely the Lemmy app that comes closest to recreating that experience.

[-] Squirrel@thelemmy.club 3 points 1 year ago

I was one of the few chiming in about Sync, but I was definitely in the minority. The vast majority used one of the three you mentioned, primarily RiF it seemed.

[-] Jivebunny@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Thunder is neat.

[-] vd1n@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

I'm fine with jerboa.

[-] willnever_fadeaway@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I love thunder and all the features I'm looking for are here. And I like how it looks. I don't need to try another app.
