It can work both ways, doesn’t have to be “wife bad”

[-] Entropywins@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

To me it looks like that wife has a very emotional husband and she's like make it stop please...

[-] DoucheAsaurus@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

Yeah she looks pretty done with his shit lol

Never said it had to be that way, but that's typically how these boomer memes go.

[-] MasterBlaster@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Remember - with age comes experience. I'm not a boomer, but don't discount them just because they're older.

It used to be the elders were the ones who helped us navigate the pitfalls they didn't Escape.

You're assuming a lot. I don't have a problem with age itself or old people, nor do I discount their experiences. What I have a problem with is them bringing antiquated ideals like "wife bad" with them. We can take useful knowledge from the past forward but leave the toxic garbage behind.

I agree with you 100% but in the interest of trying to contribute to lemmy more, I’ll make this comment: I didn’t even get a “wife bad” vibe from this meme, personally, until I saw your comment. So it’s almost a self-fulfilling prophecy scenario here, for me.

Yeah, I get that. There are bad apples in both genders. The problem is that the court system appears to assume things that puts men at a significant disadvantage in outcomes when marriages don't work.

[-] ThirdWorldOrder@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Fair point.

This looks like a picture from around 1930, right after the stock crash. The man just lost all his money. The woman, she's in shock.

He's probably despairing from the abject failure of his ability to support his family.

[-] Catsrules@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 year ago

Then the message is right, if he was single he wouldn't have to worry about supporting a family.

No, he'd be in the same state, as he can't support himself anymore, and possibly worse because he does not have someone to help him and/or give comfort.

She'd be in the same state because she would be married to someone else who had similar problems, or worse if she were a spinster. Back then, women didn't have a lot of options to support themselves.

Haha classic vibe

My wife snores like a Sicilian mason, but only when I lay beside her, strangely. So, I'm wandering between the sofa and the bed in the night. But that's nothing compared to the condition I'd be in without her. Probably dead. (I'm not exaggerating)

Yes, because the problems only singles have are solved by being in a relationship....So the only problems left are the ones that come from the relationship. Deep, innit?

[-] MasterBlaster@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

If only it were that simple. There's a Venn diagram in this situation.

[-] moosetwin@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

thanks again lemmygradlook at who posted it

Jo wtf, I looked at its profile and this dude is straight up moderator of an Anti-Nato community. The only thing I saw there is some over-dramatic video that shows how Germany is Nazi again and steals everything valuable from you and this because of Nato and Zelenski. Wtf.

[-] Trainguyrom@reddthat.com 5 points 1 year ago

Yes, being in a relationship, especially when you live with your partner presents new challenges you wouldn't have on your own, but learning how to overcome those challenges is how you become a better person.

Learning how to compromise, when to compromise and when not to compromise (and when to back down because there is no compromise) is a brilliant skill to have

I am 14, but this is deep

[-] mycoxadril@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Well this hits a little too close to home at this particular moment.

[-] Mcballs1234@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago
