The Google Photos feature of finding photos of a specific person in your collection by their face is the key feature my wife really loves. Is there a self-hosted tool (ideally Synology NAS compaible) that gives similar functionally I could have more control over how it's using/analyzing our photos,, rather than needing to trust Google with our family photos just for that feature?

Synology's new-ish Photos app does this, no?

Here's a screenshot of the "People" view under albums, from their Photos Mobile app. Looks similar under the Synology app.

Immich is pretty much a self hosted version of Google Photos. I highly recommend it. It's under very active development. I've been using it for a few months now and it's been rock solid despite all the dev on it.

I’ve been testing https://photoview.github.io running locally on docker and it’s working just fine. Face recognition works amazingly well and fast.

Nextcloud also has a photo album app with face recognition (additional app) which I’ve been meaning to try. There is also the new https://memories.gallery/ also in my list of apps to test :)

At https://github.com/photoview/photoview are also the following names as alternatives:

I hope that helps :)

I've tried them all and came back to photoview. Face recognition along with ability to use actual folders is what brought me back.
