It pops up on English speaking clients. This is not a bilingual community, despite what the sidebar claims. Even the rules are in French..

Actually, having a look at the sidebar, it is indeed bilingual, what is your issue? If you don't like it, block it and move on with your day.

I just think it's more considerate to remove English so thousands of people don't have to block it :)

We used to have English speakers coming for questions or recommandations back on Reddit, I guess that could be the same here

I think the implication is that you can post and comment in English, and then you'll probably get replies in English.

The problem lies in the fact that the language settings in lemmy is absolutely broken by design.

If we remove english from the settings, users will not be able to post on english instances, nor will people on english instances be able to post here.
