In Germany, sweeping slurs against women can be punishable as incitement to hatred.

Communications that are considered illegal include posts in which women are slandered and insulted in a sexualized manner, or publicly encouraged to send nude photos. The authorities also flagged posts that advocated rape or sexual assault or that distributed videos of torture or killing.

The raids concentrated on suspects who had set their sights on well-known women like female politicians

Oh thats easy. You photoshop a porn image with them and a girl they work with.

And email it to their wife.

Hey Lemmy, can you please stop with the "if I can't insult and verbally abuse others, then this is literally Soviet Russia" attitude?

[–] HumanPenguin@feddit.uk 8 points 8 months ago

Ok

“if I can’t insult and verbally abuse others, then this is literally ... non nazi Germany."

Weren't people literally arrested for supporting Palestine? At least in the Soviet Union speech was protected consistent to a particular ideology. What ideology is it that supports Palestinian genocide other than imperialism?

I'm not aware of any peaceful protestors that were arrested for supporting Palestine.

At least in the Soviet Union speech was protected consistent to a particular ideology.

That's not free speech.

What ideology is it that supports Palestinian genocide other than imperialism?

Not sure where you see this ideology propagated in Germany.

When "send nudes" gets you arrested

(It’s a good thing though, some comment sections are completely insane)

[–] Send_me_nude_girls@feddit.de 4 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

Concerning. But we all know there's more to it.

[–] InputZero@lemmy.ml 2 points 8 months ago

Absolutely, but they weren't arraigned as far as the article suggests. Also the language of the article is really suggestive. Intolerance can not be tolerated, and perhaps the police coming around to have a chat with intolerant people is a good thing. It's concerning it happened but yeah, doubtful that's the full story.

[–] the_wise_wolf@feddit.de 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure that's not enough. But let's try it out.

@GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip: Send nudes!

[–] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Am a dude, it needs to be directed at women I’m pretty sure

[–] ChrislyBear@lemmy.world 0 points 8 months ago

Let's be honest, there are ONLY dudes on Lemmy.

In Gommunist Gyna, people are arrested for the things they say about politicians.

In Democratic Germany, people's rights to free political speech are protected.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemm.ee 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

What are you trying to say? I can't get past the internal contradictions of this statement ......

Yes, china does moderate the speech of it's citizens. In theory this is part of the state's duty to protect the cohesiveness of their political and cultural hierarchy. This is fairly standard in any socialized nation that's confronting reactionary influence.

In this way, wouldn't Germany utilizing the state's power to protect it's vulnerable populations from reactionary culture wars be a win in the eyes of leftist?

Yes we can all laugh at the irony of the situation, but it seems most people commenting are taking a very libertarian attitude for the sake of misogyny.

[–] MarcoPOLO@sh.itjust.works 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

There's a gap between what's good for a country and what Western countries claim is good for a country. I don't think OP was making a claim either way, just that there's clearly a gap and Germany is a hypocrite.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemm.ee 1 points 8 months ago

There's a gap between what's good for a country and what Western countries claim is good for a country.

Right..... But western countries tend to be more liberal with protecting hate speech. Their usual claim for what's good for the country is to allow reactionary speech to dominate the public forum.

Limiting hate speech and reactionary calls to violence isn't exactly what the west is known for. So they are progressing the status quo towards collectivism and away from libertarian values.

How is this bad under the scope of leftism?

Also, even if you don't think op was making a statement, there are plenty of people here echoing libertarian ideology. Seems strange that the only time people here fear the consolidation of state power is when it is aimed at misogyny.

As any liberal knows, completely arbitrary law enforcement is the basic building block of a functioning democracy.

[–] Thann@lemmy.ml 1 points 8 months ago

You really just need laws that allow you to put anyone you don't like in jail
